Oh my.

As the condom primitive in Iowa City reminds us, it's week 11 of college football.

franksolich improved his record to 1-2 against the primitives, who don't know anything about college football excepting what the talking faces on television tell them.  Actually, I've been up against the primitives four times now, but there was one week where we saw eye-to-eye, and so that's not counted.

***********COLLEGE FOOTBALL: WEEK 11***********

After where we've been the last couple of days, the games don't seem so ****ing important, do they? That's all I got tonight. Thursday night before kick.

Standings to follow.

Thursday, November 10
Virginia Tech +1 @ Georgia Tech

Saturday, November 12
Pittsburgh +3.5 @ Louisville
Texas -1.5 @ Missouri
Nebraska -3 @ Penn State (Chin up, Penn State fans. It's going to be a rough ride. Keep the faith.)
Wake Forest +19.5 @ Clemson
West Virginia +3.5 @ Cincinnati
Michigan State -3 @ Iowa
Oklahoma State -18 @ Texas Tech
Miami (Fla) +10 @ Florida State
Auburn +12.5 @ Georgia
Michigan -3 @ Illinois
Texas A&M -3 @ Kansas State
TCU +15.5 @ Boise State
Alabama -18 @ Mississippi State
Oregon +3 @ Stanford

With his little editorial comment re: the Nebraska-some obscure state college in Pennsylvania game, it's obvious who the condom primitive wants to win, but oh well; he's from Iowa after all, meaning he's just an overall-wearing hick, a country rube, a sunburned rustic, a straw-sucking hayseed, so it doesn't matter what he wants.

franksolich is picking West Virginia over Cincinnati this week.

Anyway.

After the way we played last Saturday, losing to Northwestern in a crushing defeat 28-25, I figured we'd be lucky if we did any better than a 58-7 loss this coming weekend to that team that boasts the most sorry-assed "fans" in America.

But something shortly thereafter happened to change the dynamics.

Now I'm thinking the game's going to be volatile; could go either way.

As many here know, I am no fan of the "fans" of our upcoming opponent, and if I made a comment about the matter, it'd be construed as gloating.

Nebraskans don't gloat.

And so all I'll say is that I'm against this sort of thing going on, and that some people deserve to be shot immediately as if rabid dogs.  Other than that, no comment, because it might be interpreted as gloating.

"Fans" of our opponent gloat; we Nebraskans hold our peace.

Regent wants security plan at Penn State

LINCOLN — A University of Nebraska regent says he fears for the safety of the Cornhuskers' football traveling party and fans at Saturday's game at Penn State. He wants assurances a security plan is in place to protect them.

Regent Tim Clare of Lincoln said he began worrying about safety while watching televised coverage of the scene in State College, Pa., after coach Joe Paterno's firing Wednesday night. He said Penn State has a raucous atmosphere on a normal football Saturday, and the school owes Nebraska answers.

Penn State police chief Tyrone Parham wrote in an email to the Associated Press on Thursday that his force is "taking extra precautions and has added additional resources for the game."

Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne declined to comment.

You know, this is unheard of, for us.

It's true that at times when we showed up in Boulder, Colorado, to play football, the Nebraska coaches and team had to be shielded by something like 50 Nebraska state patrolmen (the "norm" is.....two), but that of course was a rare extraordinary event.

Even in our most raucous, violent games, against Missouri, no one needed "protection."  Never.  Not in 120 years.
