Power outages plague Connecticut residents for 8th day

More than 113,000 customers of Connecticut Light & Power remain without electricity for an eighth day as the utility says it has deployed record numbers of crews in the wake of last week’s rare October snowstorm.
Boston Herald

Eight days.  That doesn't do much to recommend CTP&L.

Waaaaaahhhhhh...cry me a river.

Oh, and people?  Said it before, will say it again--next time Asplundh wants to come in and cut the trees back from the power lines, YOU LET THEM.  Let the last few days act as a reminder.

And NO, burying the power lines is NOT a viable option.

I have to agree with Sparky here. I have underground power but at some point it is hooked up to an above ground transformer, when that blows we loose everything except for our gas appliances but not the gas furnice.

Some places up here farmers put out their sheep and goats to remove grass and shrubs under the huge power lines. Works great for both sides in the summer.   Saving to the power company's is considerable, farmers get free grazing land, the power company's have instant access to the lines.

Then we have a long known potential power from the ocean, we are at the start of the bay of Fundy and the power of the tide that removes 1/4 mile of water leaving mud flats every 6 hours is amazing when all that water comes flooding back every 6 or so hours.

Up north into the very mouth of the bay the tide goes out for 3+miles or so and when it turns is so fast it has out run horses and the tide rises so fast the docks are built 20+ feet high.  At low tide one looks in awe at the docks sitting in the mud, why are they built so high????

Funny for us natives that have tourists from all over the mid west, they have seen the tides on both coasts but get confused if they arrive at the beach or rivers at high tide go off to see the sights them come back 6 or so hours later to find the spot has no or little water, just mud flats with a small channel of deep water  for boats to navigate through.

All that mostly untapped power right on our door steps.  Clean and dependable, just over looked when we go into wind farming, not all that dependable, the wind blows when it does, the tides all ways are on time 24/7 for as long as we have our moon to cause this head shaking wonder of the world.

We are a power needed country, there are only 3 other places on earth with the configuration of the coast to cause this aberration of geology    Hydro Electric is the wave--pardon my pun, of the future.

Word!  When our power goes out here (and I work for them) they bust their asses I must say to get power on for people, even the one's that don't pay their damn bills.  Cut these people a break Conneticut.  Learn to survive.

I've been in the utility industry ever since I got out of the Navy.  The shit you hear on a daily basis will make you shake your head.

I always thank the ComEd workers for doing such a good job, and they appreciate it.
