Do you read The Nation or see it's writers on progresive TV?

The Nation is hurting for $. They are asking for help. Any amount would help.

6. Why do DUers doubt me? Here is the e-mail

IF you have $18 take the E subscription: https://subscribe.thenation.com/pubs/NN/NAN/keypm1.jsp?...

I got an e-mail that doubted The nation needed $. I must have an ulterior motive. Here is the mail we got:

Freedom of the Press Belongs to Those Who Own the Press

Dear Nation Friend:

Cynical? Perhaps. But true.

And as the protesters of Occupy Wall Street voice their frustrations just a few blocks south of our offices and across the country, we’re facing our own very real challenges. It’s simple: because of the economy, donations to our Nation Associates program are down $200,000 for 2011.

So that is why I am writing. It's up to me -- and you -- and every person who understands how important The Nation is to free speech and political discourse -- to support The Nation Associates today.

This is no time to pull punches, scale back or otherwise take our eye off the ball. Not with a presidential election heating up and so much at stake. We must make up this shortfall before we sit down to plan our Election 2012 coverage for the coming year.

You and I care about free speech and no-holds-barred reporting. But in our corporatist society, it's not guaranteed. It's not free. It never has been. It belongs to people who are willing to fight for it...and yes, pay for it.

We don't want to scale back our robust print and web coverage -- including benching some of the most courageous investigative reporters in journalism today. That would be unacceptable, especially at a point when an independent political voice is critical in the lead-up to the 2012 elections.

I know times are tough and money is tight. But we ask that you make a gift to The Nation Associates today, letting us know you stand with us.

The Nation and our nation depend on you.

Sincerely,

Teresa Stack
President, The Nation

P.S. Do you have any lefty relics gathering dust in your closet? Why not donate them to our fourth annual, entirely one-of-a-kind "No Time to Pull Punches" online auction, set to launch November 12th? How about a week's stay in your vacation home? Business services? Theatre tickets? We already have dozens of truly unique items in the auction catalog.

Auction info here: http://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/AuctionHome.actio...

Well, it's too bad about the Nation, one time long ago (like generations ago) a most excellent and popular left-of-center magazine.

One wonders why it's in decline.

No, actually one doesn't wonder.

Only Omaha Steve would take email spam personally and go to DU to cry about it.

He's probably busily weeping on the chief editor's shoulder right at this moment.

Just $10 more dollars has become $18 more dollars now...Obama and inflation, huh.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

And DUmmies say that no jobs are available in this country.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Probably about $18 an hour is what my fellow Nebraskan makes as a part-time security guard.

He was security-guarding the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha a few days ago.

He's a big guy; could probably stomp franksolich into a red splatter in the ground in seconds.

The Nation is the print version of Air America.

Now it is, of course.

But there was a time--oh, about the last third of the nineteenth century--when the Nation was a decent left-wing magazine, as far as left-wing magazines go.  It was during the 1930s when it started going moonbatshit crazy, and it's been downhill since.
