Authorities: Car strikes 3 at Occupy DC protest

WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia authorities say a car drove through a crowd near an Occupy DC protest and struck three people.

D.C. fire department spokesman Lon Walls said Saturday morning that the three were transported to two area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. He said none was in critical condition but that some injuries were "fairly serious."

Hundreds of protesters affiliated with Occupy DC shut down streets Friday near the city's convention center in downtown Washington.

D.C. Council member Tommy Wells tweeted that the driver was "stopped further up and in custody." He added that police would be checking his blood alcohol content, among other things. Wells said he was conferring with police officials about the incident.

District of Columbia police said early Saturday that a driver will not be charged for striking three people taking part in an Occupy DC protest in downtown Washington.

Lt. Christopher Micciche (MITCH’-ih-kay) of the D.C. police said the driver was not cited because he had a green light when his vehicle struck the three on Friday night.

He said witnesses told police that the three pedestrians “either ran toward or jumped in front of the moving vehicle.” He said one pedestrian jumped on the hood of the car. One of them was cited for being in the roadway.

“The protesters were apparently trying to block the roadway,” Micciche said. “It was essentially an accident where three individuals were injured but they were in violation by being in the roadway.”

Back when I lived in south FL I attended a concert with my then-wife in downtown Miami. Heading back to I-95 I was surprised to see a shanty town under the on-ramp. I was even more surprised when a number of vagrants ran on to the road and attempted to get me to stop.

I loudly gunned the engine and sent them scattering.

Pretty much.

When the light is green, the driver has the right away.  The pedestrian cross walk sign will be a red hand that says DO NOT CROSS.  If you jump in front of a car, you deserve to get hit.  This reminds me of the dumbasses playing in the road in Oakland when the Mercedes driver hit two protesters.

GET OUT OF THE DAMN ROAD!

With good reason.

You support a group that so far has:

raped multiple women
committed thousands of acts of vandalism, destroying private property
ruined park areas for the rest of the public
shit on a cop car
shit on an American flag
stolen property
dealt and done drugs in public
knocked down and injured an elderly woman
kept other law abiding citizens from getting to work
kept their customers from being able to enter those places of work

YES, the violence WILL escalate because the OWS crowd doesn't know how to peaceably protest without shitting on the rights of others (contrast with Tea Party).  IF there is violence, it will have been WELL EARNED.
