Omaha Steve questions slamming unions

Oh my.

One wishes my fellow Nebraskan would get off all these non-campaign-related campfires, as we're all--especially the good people of Bellevue--anxious to hear him tell us what he plans to do as city councilman, to lower taxes, lessen government, stop paying public employees so much, support the military, &c., &c., &c.

That's what Omaha Steve has to say, if he wants to win in a city consisting mostly of current and former military personages.

She has a pension & 401k, health ins, kept her job, and slammed the union she doesn't belong to

I talked to her yesterday. When her job was eliminated at UPS, she got an afternoon shift instead of being laid off. She says that is not good for a working mother.

The health insurance must be good. It paid most of her bladder surgery last year. One of her kids has two bad kidneys and it is paying most of that.

Says her husband doesn't make bad $, but has no benefits.

Maybe she should pays dues to make it a better union?

Maybe she's decided the union won't do jackshit for her.  Ever think about that?

2. If she works at UPS, she's bullshitting you. Every UPS job is union. Their medical insurance is fully paid for because of the union. The pay can suck, depending on the job, but drivers make around $30.00/hr once they make book (only one state has a different rate, I think it's Mississippi or Alabama, but not positive). Overtime is anything over an 8 hour shift for a full-time employee, and anything over four or six (I forget, it's been a while since I worked there) for part-time employees.

3. She is covered by the contract and could join if she wanted

But she never joined. Nebraska is a right to work (for less) state. One of the first to pass it.

And Nebraska's unemployment rate is ? when compared with the unemployment rates in union-run states?

7. Her job was loading and unloading airplanes

It was contracted out.

Come on, Steve; we want to hear some campaign promises, not this sort of thing.....

Gee, I wonder why that happened.
I'm absolutely sure it had nothing to do with high union wages, right, OS? :whatever:
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Oh, that's gonna sting, Steve.  And let's not forget that taxes and costs of living are also lower in right-to-work states.

Maybe O-Ring Steve has figured it out that his run for office will be about as short as something else he is proud of.
