Jewish Leaders Denounce Right-Wing Smears of Occupy Wall Street

A Statement Against Smears

We are publicly engaged American Jews who support both Israel and the ideas behind Occupy Wall Street and who also strongly oppose right-wing attempts to smear that movement with false charges of anti-Semitism.
It’s an old, discredited tactic: find a couple of unrepresentative people in a large movement and then conflate the oddity with the cause. One black swan means that all swans are black.
One particularly vile example was a television ad during Sunday talk shows paid for by something called the Emergency Committee for Israel that is organized by William Kristol and Gary Bauer.
It is disingenuous to raise the canard about Jews and Wall Street in order to denounce it.
Occupy Wall Street is a mass protest against rising inequality in America, a fact documented last week by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. Anyone who visits Zuccotti Park understands that it has nothing to do with religion and everything to do “with liberty and justice for all.”
All of us irrespective of party or position should expose and denounce anti-Semitism where ever it occurs, but not tar hundreds of thousands of protestors nationwide because a handful of hateful people show up with offensive signs that can’t be taken down in a public park open to all.
We are pleased that the Anti-Defamation League agrees that some random signs “are not representative of the larger views of the Occupy Wall Street movement.”

Well let me put this way, if the entire Tea Party is branded as racist for a few random signs, then it is only fair to condemn the OWieS for a few random signs.

I've only seen the many videos of Occupier's spewing hate speech. Doesn't matter how much you deny your own words its too late.

as to vanquish critics, how are you going to do it? Cancel free speech? Shut down the internet.

The best way to silence critics is stop the drugs, ditch the drummers, stop blaming Jews, and for good measure: stop the rapes. Seriously, dudes: you are your own worst enemies.

It's just a list of heads of organizations with Jewish surnames. All are left-leaning. They give faint praise to the OWSies in the longshot chance that something that the American electorate may latch onto so they can claim credit.

Counterpoint is that the more likely outcome is the OWSies fail miserably and these people still have plausible deniability that they weren't actually in support, but just happened to mention that there were a couple of good things that they could back, or that they weren't actually aware of the anarchist tilt, and happened to mention in public forum.

The Jew-haters have come out of the woodwork, and there won't be any denying it, & dismissing it as "right wing smears."  At the Yahoo article linked to at the Oakland Breaking News piece, the comments were chock full of anti-Jewish sentiments.

Just an observation: Out here, in the SF Bay Area, those who tend to Leftism are really big on being “transgressive” and have been for a long time. One can’t really be “kewl” without being transgressive to some substantial degree.

“Transgressive” starts with whatever pisses off your folks (who are often liberal) and moves on from there, so (for example) a lot of the kids smoke as this area was among the first to demonize smoking (other than pot).

But it’s hard to keep the transgressive thing up and there is peer pressure to be more “transgressive than thou”. Racism is the biggest sin to the previous generation and thus the just about most transgressive thing you can do around here is to be openly racist.

But that’s where it gets dicey. Being the “wrong kind” of racist is dangerous. So I believe that a lot of them express anti-Semetic views just because that is a “safe” way to be racist, hence uber-transgressive.

When one thinks about it, it is quite sick (which, BTW, has become another word for “cool” out here, as in “my new car is totally sick”, which is not the way I mean it): kids acting racist for other kids to fit in.

So I don’t think many of these people are anti-Semetic in the same way that those who started pogroms were (or, in Europe still seem to be) — they just think they are being “cool” or perhaps “sick.”

This does not make it any better, in my view, as these people are so utterly devoid of thought, purpose, and character they have to fake ethnic hatred. (They can’t even seem to do nihilism right and their attempts at ennui are actually pretty comical.)

I’ve heard young OWS members out here state they are debased failures because “the system” — which has been entirely in the hands of liberals for the past 30 years — screwed them up.

And that is manifestly true.
