My company is switching from a self-paid (by my employer) PPO to an HMO...meaning we lose about 90% of our providers. We'll each be assigned a primary care physician, but most of the HMO physicians are not accepting new patients and will not be required to accept any of the patients assigned to them.
I work 40 miles from where I live, and my town has NO HMO doctors, so once I find a physician that will take new patients and get my assignment changed... I'm going to be hauling my kids 40 miles to doctors.
The deductible on our new HMO is higher than our former deductible, and we have higher co-pays for every service.
In addition to all these "fun" changes, the premium I will pay will more than double. But hey, it's an Obamacare approved healthcare plan, so it's all obviously good!!
