The stuff we got last night is what NYC is going to get Saturday...rain mixed with snow, then temps drop just below freezing.  Makes a nice, hard, cold crust.

Yeah, sucks to drive in it, but the high-pitched whine of freezing hippies will be music to my ears as I stoke up the fire and drop the first pound of bacon in the pan come Sunday morning.

Ooooo and we have a brand new high efficiency boiler coupled with those old-fashioned cast iron radiators that make a nice, warm, cozy heat.  I will curl up in comfort and ignore the pitiful cries.   If this was August, could imagine the smell?

I dropped it in the shoutbox, but Glenn Beck was laughing over some 'tard at OWS Manhattan.  They were looking to the "indiginous peoples" for tips on surviving the cold.   :lmao:

This is ridiculous! we haven't even tested the snow blower yet, and they're saying a foot of snow here and 60MPH winds, that sounds like a Blizzard.

I am really looking forward to the ice storms that will have me hauling generators out to keep folks cell phones working at 2 a.m in the damn morning.

I put the chains on the tractor this afternoon, but there are still lots of leaves to fall and then mulch. At least the tire chains are on, though, which helps on the wet and slippery hills in the back yard.

Taking the mowing deck off and installing the blade should take about 30 minutes.

I need to crank up the generator this weekend to make sure it's OK, just in case... I keep about 30 gallons of gas on hand, so even with a long power failure we'll be OK. And I have at least 3 cords of firewood.

Sparky you are getting more than 6 inches, and it gets better:

"Trees still have most of their leaves and snow will get caked to them adding weight and the leaves will act like sails making limbs and powerlines very vulnerable…there could be major tree damage for Interior NE where the heaviest snow falls and numerous power outages as a result."

Yeah 10" predicted for me tonight and the leaves are still on the trees! The last time that happen it did not thaw till spring so I was unable to get the gutters clean and we developed a few leaks!
Oh well! The plow is mounted and 9 cord of wood is stacked in the shed. The worst part is no football on Sunday because of a power outage. Note to self, pick up beer and tune the battery powered radio to the FAN.

I've got to go get some gasoline for the generator (a little 800w one from Harbor Freight), an extension cord, toliet paper, paper towels, gummi worms (have to have comfort food!), and some other stuff.  I have to sing at 4 PM today, so that one might be interesting.  We're supposed to get 4 to 6 inches here--maybe less.

I have to get my generator all done up and ready for the winter, because I know it'll get lots of use.  Have to see if the snow blower will start again this year too. I've got winter tyres on the car early this year and I'm hoping this car will make it through the winter, as I don't want a repeat of last winter. (2 cars in one month)

And unlike most of you, I have to find out if I'm on the plowed half of the road or unplowed half because they seem to change it every year. If I'm on the unplowed half that'll have to be changed.

We are not getting hit by anything soon but it's good to get ready ahead of time.

I am hearing different variations. For now , we have an inch on the ground, and I am on the seacoast!! Have to work tomorrow am, but will be ok. I have lived in New England now for 43 years, so I should be used to it by now....

Anyway everyone else stay safe, as we go headlong into our first snowstorm of the year!!

I dunno about anybody else, but out here in the Sandhills of Nebraska, it was a wonderful, a simply wonderful, autumn day.  It looked like Connecticut, with the trees and their multi-colored leaves and all that.

The longer we go, the worse the predictions get.  We're on the cusp of the 12-18" band.  So yeah, looking outside at 9 PM where it only started snowing about 4 hours ago, we're well on our way to a foot at least.

That'd make me feel as if Christmas is coming.

Right now, out here, one feels as if autumn's finally shown up, and so time to put up the stacks and pumpkins.

I think we already have a foot of snow -- or pretty close to it.  Knock on wood, we still have power.   Several of my friends in surrounding towns have lost their power (I was on the phone with one when her power went out).

Not tonight. It happens on the first weekend of November, or on Saturday night this year (to get up on Sunday and be in the correct time frame). Sunday, 11/6, will be on standard time.
