Is it just me or does it appear as if the two guys in the middle didn't pull their pants all the way up after they got through doing...whatever.

I was thinking the same thing. :puke:

4. Yes, seriously.
They are already facing problems with having no way to heat/cook anything onsite -- their camping gear was during confiscated the first raid. So most of what they eat is staples kept in the kitchen area that are eaten cold. Some food (like what I do) is being prepared offsite and brought it. It is not an easy situation at all for them.  :(

yeah?  Well the conditions our Troops have endured in Iraq and Afghanistan for the past 10 years don't exactly make for an easy situation either.

Well, I suppose we could give them old MREs, it would certainly keep any of them from shitting on a cop care for a pretty good while.

Not at all, I always found most of 'em pretty tasty, especially after the duds were eliminated from the first set of menus they introduced.  Just like C-rats, though, they will block you up like a concrete milkshake.

When I was  small boy in the early 70s my dad got injured on a oil rig. To get by one of my dads old Army buddies hooked us up with C rations. Not great but not awful.

They were decent if you could heat up the meat ration.  There was enough treated cardboard in the box each meal came in to tear up and make a little funeral pyre around the can (Poking a hole in the top for pressure relief) that would get it up to eating temp.  Only a couple of them were good cold.

If I remember my American History correctly, something like 2000 men died at Valley Forge, most of them due to disease.

Lemme know when the OWS types hit anywhere near that number, mkay DUmmies?
Not a fair comparison, Sparky.
These days, most venereal diseases are treatable with antibiotics and hence, not fatal.
Otherwise, they'd be making Valley Forge seem like a Girl Scout Jamboree, I tell ya!

Ham and limas was a little before even my time, never saw them from '75 on.  The two that were edible cold were tuna and beans-n-franks.  Some found the eggs-n-ham edible cold, some did not.  The rest were like biting into the frozen carcass of a fat bear when cold - meat, but full of solidly-congealed grease.  When heated, the spaghetti-n-meat was actually damned good, I have never had civilian canned spaghetti that could remotely touch it.

One does not appreciate bad field rations until one recalls the Dehydrated Pork Patty and its kin the Dehydrated Beef patty.

Reconstituting them only made it worse.

Don't the most recent incarnation of MRE's have some sort of self-heating chemical packs to warm them??

Yeah, those have been around for a few years, you stick the packet to be heated in a plastic bag with a flat packet of chemical stuff that looks kind of like ground charcoal, add water up to a certain level in accordance with directions, and wait until the whole thing cools down enough to handle.  Works pretty well, really.

Yes.

They also are good for warming your self or a bag of IV fluid.

Or stuffing in an empty plastic bottle and closing the cap to make an MRE bomb.

But, if you got one of those as the entree, the dessert was dried strawberries (or something equally good).

My shipmates and I had the pleasure of dining for a day on C-rats that were on the verge of expiration. It was time to rotate the stocks that were kept in the life rafts and the Old Man just couldn't see letting that *ahem* good food go to waste. Needless to say, after the first meal there was a run on the ship's store's supply of candy bars and roasted peanuts.

Ugh, the ham and eggs was disgusting!  I just couldn't eat them.  Some kind of gag reflex kicked in when I tried and everything came up.

Freeze dreid strawberries or fruit cocktail. We used to call it fruit flavored styrofoam

Do they still put tiny bottles of Tobasco in the rations? I LOVED those. My ex thought I was nuts for putting it on ( almost ) everything.

You ain't lying, Sarge. That crap isn't fit for Venezuelan prison rations. Seriously it's like D-con. No matter what you do to it it always winds up the same, like Grape Nuts cereal with water instead of milk. Might as well eat a salt lick, raw. No way to tell the "pork" from the "beef" unless you read the bag.
The "chocolate cake" wasn't bad though, downright festive after a morning of running around in MOPP gear in the heat with the chiggers and sand fleas gnawing you to the bone.
