OR rather, they aren't poor enough.

I'm on a message board for moms and whenever the topic turns to OWS or the economy, they start in on how being poor is really pretty good and people need to just suck it up. "If you can't make ends meet, get a couple of part time jobs." or "Oh, there are jobs out there, people are just to lazy to apply for them." and a host of other simply asinine things.

It makes me so angry when these women (who also talk about their collections of expensive purses and such) and frustrated that these are also the "christian" women.

It also shows me what is really wrong with this country...it seems that the "us" against "them" meme has really taken in some circles. Except the "them", are our neighbors, our relatives, our friends.

Any ideas on how to counter statements like these? Or commiseration on being around stupid people?

There are also a number of bright, sweet, liberal women too, who make me feel hopeful.

That is true, most of the poor in this country have not seen real poverty, most of them eat every single day,  have cell phones, big screen Tee Vees, and get healthcare on the taxpayer dime. There are people in the world who will gladly trade places with you ingrates and allow you to live their lives of actual poverty, you know a life where you can't log onto DU since there is no computer much less electricity to run one.

I get the type of ladies she's talking about and yes, without a doubt, there are some very spoiled ladies out there whose loftiest goal of the week is to get that coach purse for 50 bucks less then retail. However, that doesn't change the fact that most of the poor in this country not only live with BASICS, but live with things that other poor would consider luxuries! And these luxuries come by way of taxpayers' wallets in most cases. At least the ladies bragging about their latest Coach conquest have bought it with either their own money or that of the man who who actually lives in their household with them. Hell, he's probably paying for the 'poor' woman's plasma tv at EITC time too.  :thatsright:

I go to CVS pharmacy to get my prescriptions and for at least FOUR months they have had a sign in their window for a pharmacy tech.  It says on the sign that they don't have to be certified, CVS will help them get it. This is not for a pharmacist, this is for the person who works behind the counter in the pharmacy.

I assume this position pays more than a McDonalds "team member", why it hasn't been filled yet is beyond me.

My guess: the Pharmacist holds the "racist" view that if the applicant can't pass the Whiz Quiz, the likelihood of the narcotics inventory remaining predictable would fall into the slim/non range. :confused:

They have to bondable and the position requires drug testing, most likely.  Sounds like a great opportunity for someone with a clean slate, though.

This is what gets me about these OWS whining little bitch babies! They wouldn't know poverty if it bit em in the ass. I'll say it right here. No one in America knows poverty but for the people that are to proud to rail the system. They might be back in the woods working their fingers to the bone on the homestead never thinking once that anyone owes them anything. They are the only people in this country that know poverty!
  To these asshats that are protesting, poverty is having to WORK!! GOD I hate them!!!!!
