CNN

Listen to the Obama's remarks Wednesday.

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (CNN) –- Democrat Barack Obama's wife Michelle chose silence Wednesday when the couple were asked about recent comments made by their former pastor, and the harsh words Sen. Obama had for him Tuesday.

In a question-and-answer session with voters, the two were asked what kind of toll it takes on them to have to turn their backs on someone who had been good to them in the past.

Sen. Obama responded first, saying he "made a statement yesterday that was hard to make."

"What we want to do now though is to make sure that this doesn’t continue to be a perpetual distraction," he said.

Then he turned to his other half.

"Michelle, do you have anything to add to that?" After a brief hesitation he said, "You do, but…" He stopped and smiled as she shook her head.

The audience laughed.

"Remember, there are a lot of reporters around," he said, joining in the laughter.

Watch Michelle Obama speak out tonight in an interview with CNN's Suzanne Malveaux at 8:20 p.m. ET, with an extended version airing at on AC 360 at 10 p.m. ET

whoever did it is smart.  every time she opened her mouth, something bizarre came out, and his polls sunk another point.  her odd (politest possible term) views reinforce rev wright's raving insanity;  people rightly wonder who this guy is, if everyone that he associates with is a whack job.

Medved and Rush keep playing Obama's comments from six weeks ago where he said, "I can no more denounce Reverand Wright than i can denounce my own grandmother."

and then he threw Wright under the bus.. and Michelle was out there talking just like Wright.. I guess she has nothing to say if she cant spew her venom against the country where she found so much success. I find it all so weird; nobody is muzzling them but themselves. Which ought to be very telling; if they cant speak their mind honestly, what the hell are they hiding?

I guess his granny better watch out;  she's next. :-)

seriously, this is why you don't nominate neophytes to run for president;  these are the sort of mistakes that they make, and every association that they have ever had hasn't been vetted, & etc.  they haven't even gotten to coeds that didn't like the D they got in constitutional law 15 years ago, and wanna talk about the inappropriate conversation that transpired one night after class.  there's bound to be one or two of those out there.

Too smart to run.  Just like Powell.

You couldn't get me to run for public office with a gun to my head.

I do alright and all I had to do was sell my soul to Stan.

I think Michelle is the more militant one. I also think she's much the 'Hillary' in this relationship and Obama is the 'Bill'. The only difference being that Michelle doesn't want political glory for herself. She's content with manipulating Obama's career.

I get the distinct impression that she's more invested in the Reverend than Obama.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle
