We should tax private air travel out of existence - who needs to fly to Disney World?
   
First, tax every seat on commercial aircraft at a rate so high that no one can afford to travel by plane - lets say the tax will be 10 times the cost of the ticket. Next, if you think this would kill business, which is nonsense of course but someone will say that would be the effect then make some portion of the tax a deductible item for business purposes.

That should save a little bit of fuel. How do they measure the fuel consumption of commercial aircraft, by how many tons they burn per hour isn't it? Does this country really need to be burning thousands of tons of aircraft fuel every day just so people can visit Disney World?

Well, I dunno.

I don't think people such as Babs Streisand or Alphonse Capote Gore are going to like the idea.

Of course, they enlarge their own carbon footprints traveling by air privately, rather than commercially, but one suspects the mountain man primitive means to include such travel too.

But one is led to ask the mountain man primitive how much diesel fuel he burns, using his great big diesel-guzzling pick-up truck towing a Vanderbilt-class yacht on a trailer behind, going from recreational area to recreational area in West Virginia?

Surely it's not small potatoes, what the mountain man consumes in recreationalizing.

What would happen if a democrat congress passed such a tax and a democrat president signed it into law and then all the airlines got together and told congress and the president that the airlines had no intention of being their tax collectors, so if they want to collect the tax, congress and the president had better station a tax collector at every ticket counter and travel agency in the country?

His presumption that it would be a zero sum ending is utter foolishness as their beloved tax revenues would be lost from sales taxes paid by vacationers into local and state economies above the loss of income tax from those who no longer are employed by the defunct airlines,hotels,vacation destinations..etc.
