That was wonderful!  The unvarnished truth told by an average American.

H5! I don't like the censorship I just witnessed on this site!
We can have a discussion without using the n-word. It's called intelligence; not censorship.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Pathetic and sad, yet no longer shocking.

Yes we can but what you did was censorship. Words are words and there are many offensive words. I personally don't like the big stigma attached to that word and the fact its used regularly by blacks to describe scum of the earth. I think the word should be used to describe any color scum!
I remember in my youth the word "Blacks" was the bad one? Its a slippery slope when when you start to ban words. Every body and every group has words they find distasteful so when you start where does it end? I expected better from this site. Ban things they don't agree with is what what liberals do.

I have always been of the opinion that we have equal rights.  If "they" continue to use the word then "We" should also be able to.  It's a word.  If your life is dictated by a single word then you have bigger problems to deal with.

If the word is so offensive then they would stop using it.  They use it as a crutch to keep being victims.

Words have meanings. Words convey thoughts and ideas. Words are powerful. We use words to argue, cajole, intimidate, and express love.

When I, as a Caucasian, use the N-word in the context that represents belittlement, oppression, and hatred, that lowers me to a level I don't want to be at.

If Blacks want to use that word to represent a portion of their population, hey, that's no skin off my nose. As the guy in the video states, there are "******s" and there are Blacks. And they know who they are.

I've got no dog in that fight. I don't need to get mixed up in that particular discussion. Ergo, I have no business using that word.

If the word weren't so inflammatory, maybe it would be a different thing altogether. But it is. The word represents everything that tears people down and serves no useful purpose.

So why use it? Just to prove a point? That the word, when used in the context in which it's often used - to insult, aggravate and cause problems - simply can be used when another word that doesn't cause so much grief and ill feeling can be used instead? Makes no sense to me.

Catmtrods calls it censorship when arguments are raised against using the word. I call avoiding use of that particular word simply good sense. Our language is rich enough without resorting to deliberate attempts to inflame and incite negative reactions.

Unless, of course, inciting anger and negative reactions is our goal to begin with. Then, I suppose, using the N-word is the thing to do.

For one, I won't use it.

My take on it on memphistigers.org:

Quote
I live out in the burbs, I gotta say, I couldn't see any man, black or white, doing shit like this. It's pretty respectful out here in Evans, Ga. Of course, there are a lot of military people, and kids raised by their military parents. Add to that Evans (Columbia County) used to be rural and many of the kids are being raised by parents who were raised by "old school" southern country parents who wouldn't put up with that shit, again, both black and white. I'm not saying the burbs or rural areas are perfect, but most of this crap does seem to pale in comparison to what's seen in the urban settings.

This is urban "thug culture". Trash. ....that needs to be taken out and disposed of.
NAMBLA is a left-wing organization.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

I didn't call it censorship when arguments are raised. I would call that freedom of speech.

I called the action of deleting the word censorship.

cen·sor

noun
1.
an official who examines books, plays, news reports, motion pictures, radio and television programs, letters, cablegrams, etc., for the purpose of suppressing parts deemed objectionable on moral, political, military, or other grounds.
2.
any person who supervises the manners or morality of others.

I find the censorship of the word more offensive than the word. Really what it is, is that the libs and lib media have demonized the word to the point it is a power trip over the white man. Everyone is terrified to use the word except the black man. Kind of an in your face thing I think! Look at the power I have over you! You are censored, I am not. Think about it!

Censorship= not good for freedom!
I rest my case.

Opinion noted. You quoted my post above, but I believe you're directing your angst to DixieBelle as she's the one who deleted the offending word. And, as she's an Admin, who has the power over whom?

It looks to me like censorship isn't an evil thing at all -- it's simply necessary from time to time. Leaving that word hang out there for untold numbers of people to read it does not do CC any good whatsoever. So it seems to me your right to use that particular word ends where this board begins.

PCism manages to keep creeping in and most don't even know it.

Death of a thousand cuts.

I grew up in the hood and I heard that N word daily.  Used more by blacks towards each other, than I ever did.

I can't count the times that I've been called a cracker or honky.

I never let those words offend me, nor have I ever understood why folks let a word offend them either.

It's only offensive if you choose to let it be.

IMO.

BTW...

When I was a young kid I asked my grandmother what a "******" was.  She told me "a worthless person regardless of skin color".

I've used that definition ever since then in my own way of thinking.

There are "******s" of all skin colors IMO.

I personally don't relate it to a person of darker skin pigment.

I have never liked that word, because it is hateful, negative and ignorant sounding word.

What to you find hateful or ignorant about it?

I'm honestly not trying to stir the pot here...  I just can't comprehend why some folks consider certain words as offensive.

If you go back in time to pre civil war, when slavery first started, it was probably a slang for negro , someone of African descent or dark coloured skin person. As time went on it developed a negative connotation. Racism reares its ugly head, and is assumed when that word is used....
