Huskers claw way out of hole to beat Buckeyes 34-27

Whew...looked like curtains there...ignominy city for the Huskers. But...Nebraska is now 5-1 and has next Saturday off for a rest and re-group...

1. Can't really brag about falling shy of expectation

Line was -10

Glad there wasn't another minute

The booger primitive can kiss franksolich's Cornhusker ass.

The bookies had Nebraska favored by circa 10; every single sports reporter in Nebraska had Nebraska favored by.....three or four, no more than four.

Bookies don't know shit about Nebraska.

2. Un-recced.

A very meager team beating a team that has lost most of its players.

****ing Pathetic.

The rabid terrapin primitive just blew to Hell any notion that the primitives are on the side of the underdog; to the primitives, the only people who are supposed to win are the upperdogs.

(In this case, both Nebraska and Ohio State were, or are, the underdog, each of them having their own peculiar set of woes.)

The rabid terrapin primitive can kiss franksolich's Cornhusker ass.

edited to remove photograph of franksolich, as lurking primitives have now seen it, and probably are reporting back to the rabid terrapin primitive on Skins's island what she's missing

3. Envy is but an ugly fartstank in a dank corner of the locker room

While victory is victory is victory, and that is taking place Center Stage where comely cheerleaders are swooning for their Heroes in BIG Red. Suck on your buckeyes, dooshballs.

Deal with it.

franksolich's response to the booger primitive: Nebraska does not play, and has never played, as if the expectations of bookies and bettors mattered.

Nebraska has only ever played to win, by one point or ten points or a hundred points.

A one-point win is a win just as much as a hundred-point win is a win.

I dunno if it's still true, but there was a time Nebraska never made the "spread;" and this was during our glory days of dominating college football.  We won our games of course, but we never made the "spread."  It was great.

Betting on college sports is wrong anyway, and so the more the pain for the bettors, the happier franksolich is.

franksolich's response to the rabid terrapin primitive: kiss my ass.

What is so wrong, so ignoble, so against the natural order of things, that two once-premier college football teams, now fallen on hard times, endeavor to climb to the top again?

What's wrong with that?

When one stumbles or falls, one isn't supposed to try to get back upright again?

What kind of perverted primitive reasoning is that?

Oh, that's right.  It's primitive reasoning, so it's perverted reasoning.

franksolich's response to the spiraling falcon primitive: of course, you're referring to the primitive fans of Ohio State, and not to the Ohio State football team itself, or to those of its fans decent and civilized people.

By the way, a record was broken last night.

Never--not once, not one single time--in the 122-years history of Nebraska football, has a Nebraska team ever come back from a 21-point deficit (not even if three and a half quarters were left to play).

It's never happened before, until last night.

Nebraska has never been an Oklahoma, an awesome "comeback" team.

I dunno why; that's just the way we are.....until last night.

Coach, things change.  Maybe Nebraska is "evolving" under Coach Pelini.  In any event, a big H5 to him for coaching them to such a big comeback.

I suspect last night was a one-time aberration, sir; one can't change the nature of people, and that's just the way we are, the way we've always been.

Come on strong at first so as to overwhelm.....but if the other side comes on even stronger at first (e.g., Oklahoma), we're sunk.

The analogy's too complicated to explain here, but Nebraskans are the same way about sex.

We have a week off, and then play Minnesota two weeks hence.

Minnesota has a pretty good football team.

My advice to Minnesota is this: come on strong at first, score early and often, and once Nebraska is behind by two touchdowns, the game's over; you've won, no matter how much time's remaining in the game, even if 56 minutes or something.

I offer this advice knowing fully well that despite it's always been the key to beating Nebraska, nobody's ever seemed to have figured it out.

Minnesota got pounded by Purdue of all teams.  I'm pretty sure Nebraska will win that one unless they go into the game thinking it's going to be a walk, and even then unlikely they'd lose.

As for the rabid terrapin primitive;  GT - 21, Maryland - 16

I thought I saw that.  Nebraska should do pretty much the same--but Coach Pelini should go into that game as if it's the OSU game.

Well yes, and we've gotten into a lot of trouble for thinking a game was going to be a cakewalk.

So best to overestimate one's opponent, than to underestimate him.

I'm looking at Minnesota as being as good as Louisiana State; now, rationally, no, that's not really true, but it's just best to not be overconfident.  I'm looking at it as if Minnesota has a pretty good football team.

Whether they do or not, time will tell.

Nebraska has yet to play Minnesota, Michigan State, Northwestern, some obscure state college in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Iowa.  I'm looking at every single one of these as if they're going to be just as tough, just as rough, as Wisconsin and Ohio State were.  If not more so.

<<does a good job of keeping rational and emotional completely separate.

Actually, sir, that wasn't the reason, but that's for another day, another time.

Nebraska dropped off a lot of radars, including this one, for various reasons 2003-2009.....even right here in Nebraska, among Nebraskans.

To this day, franksolich is still only lukewarmly affectionate towards Nebraska football; things are getting better, but they still got a l-o-n-g way to go, to where they'd been before, enthusiastic enthusiasm.

:lmao: :rotf: :lmao: :rotf: :lmao: :rotf:

Okay, I have it all figured out now--for reasons to be made obvious (if they aren't obvious now), I had to wait and read all the stories about the football game in the Sunday newspapers.

I checked something first--Nebraska has played football for 122 years now, a little over a thousand games.  In all those games, the biggest deficit Nebraska ever overcame was 17 points.....one time (out of more than a thousand, remember).....until last Saturday's game, when Nebraska overcame a -21 disadvantage to win the game.

I was not kidding when I said Nebraska is not a "comeback" team; in my own lifetime I've always noticed that if Nebraska ever gets behind by a couple of touchdowns (fortunately not a frequent occurrence), the game's pretty much over.  Nebraska's not a comeback team.  The opponent's won, no matter how much time is left in the whole game.

That's the way we are; that's the way it's always been.

So what happened with Ohio State, to make this miraculous exception?

I had to wait to read the news stories.  I can't listen to a game on the radio, or watch it on television.  All I ever have to go by is watching the "scoreboard" on the internet, in which numbers are punched in every time something happens.  I know nothing about what's going on in the game; just the numbers as they show up on the scoreboard.....and then wait until the next day to read about the "action" in the newspapers.

(It's better than it used to be; before the internet, I had to have people tell me the score, and then read about the game the next day--despite that the scoreboard is just a few numbers, it still gives me more information than I used to get, pre-internet.)

I read all the stories about Saturday's game now.  What I did not know while it was going on, was that the Ohio State quarterback got injured and pulled out of the game.....after which Nebraska made this astounding "comeback."

Until I read the Sunday newspapers, I had no idea this happened.

That explains it all, and Nebraska is still not a comeback team.

Ohio State had some bad luck; if such hadn't have happened, there was no way in Hell Nebraska would've won that game.  We were too far behind, and given the way we are, we would've never caught up.

So it wasn't any "coming back" on our part; it was wholly because of Ohio State's bad luck.

And so my original point remains the same--if one wishes to beat Nebraska, the "key" is by scoring early and scoring often.....(and nobody getting hurt).  A lead of 14 points at the end of the first quarter, or of at least 21 points at half-time, over Nebraska, and one's pretty much won the game.  Nebraska's not coming back.

Never has, never will.

This is of course why I--and most Nebraskans--have always been an advocate of ourselves scoring early and scoring often (as, obviously, the record shows we usually do); to get that score up as high as possible as quickly as possible.....because if we fall "too much" behind, we lose.

I've seen it all my life, and it of course was happening long before I was born.
