Albert Hofmann, the Swiss chemist who discovered LSD and thereby gave the psychedelic generation the pharmaceutical vehicle to turn on, tune in and drop out, has died. He was 102.

Hofmann died this morning at his home in Basel of a heart attack, according to Rick Doblin, the head of MAPS, the Multidisciplinary Assn. for Psychedelic Studies.

Al HofmannHofmann also identified and synthesized the active ingredients of peyote mushrooms and a Mexican psychoactive plant called ololiuqui and developed at least three related, non-psychoactive compounds that became widely used in medicine.

Those other feats would have been little remembered, however, had he not accidentally gotten a trace amount of an experimental compound called lysergic acid diethylamide on his fingertips and taken the world's first acid trip.

Remember Woodstock, well I dated Woodstock's son.  We sold mud, overflowing toilets, and bad acid to make tons of money. :whatever:

Augie Stanley (that's what we called him - Augie - he hadn't changed his name yet) and I go way back.  He use to call me Pig (short for guinea pig) because I would volunteer to sample the first drop of every batch.  His niece tried to seduce me once but I freak when I took off my pants and found out I was the Invisible Man.  Good shit, man.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

H5, but better, still--how come he couldn't take one long acid trip with him to the police station?

Every day. I was bound and determined to pull it off.

TiT is becoming more like Forrest Gump every day. He has met everyone, done everything, and has had his hand in the shaping of the future. And Like Forrest Gump, It's pure fiction. (Miskie goes off on a tangent...)Gump.. Fiction.. - One of my all time favorite MadTV bits...

1. Must've been quite a sight. I know some nomadic people.

A friend of mine grew up North of the Circle (Norway) in a family of nomadic reindeer hunters. I can only imagine how they might have reacted. These people still live in skin huts.

Remember, TiT was the one who convinced Edward VIII to abdicate and marry Wallis Simpson.
