China Calls For War in South China Sea ?

The lead article in the Chinese Communist Party newspaper Global Times Tuesday carried the headline "The time to use force has arrived in the South China Sea; Let's wage wars on the Philippines and Vietnam to prevent more wars." "The South China Sea is the best place for China...

"The South China Sea is the best place for China to wage wars," the article said. "Of the more than 1,000 oil rigs there, none belongs to China; of the four airfields in the Spratly Islands, none belongs to China; once a war is declared, the South China Sea will be a sea of fire [with burning oil rigs]. Who will suffer the most from a war? Once a war starts there, the Western oil companies will flee the area, who will suffer the most?"

The article went on to argue that "the wars should be focused on striking the Philippines and Vietnam, the two noisiest troublemakers, to achieve the effect of killing one chicken to scare the monkeys."

Does the US still have any agreements with the PI? Not that it would matter with the Obama Administration.

The last time they decided to screw with the Vietnamese, they didn't come out so well on the deal, which is why none of that stuff in the Spratly Islands is Chinese.

I wonder just how they think they are going to be able to project enough power to do both and keep their units supplied once the  U.S. Navy and Air Force go in? I also wouldn't go fracking around in the PI either . Their Army has plenty of experience with fighting terrorist and guerrillas in their islands.

You are assuming that Obama would stand up to them.  I wouldn't.

This kind of out-of-the-box military adventurism can't possibly turn out well for the Chinese in their relations with India or Japan, let alone the PI.  Viet Nam and the PI do represent entirely different military situations for the Chinese; in the  first, blue-water naval capability is irrelevant, in the second, a necessity.

The only way this even makes any sense at all in military terms is as a cover for staging a conquest of Taiwan.

Not quite.  I'm assuming they won't try until after the 2012 elections.  They won't have the capability to pull something like this till long after Barry  Big Ears is out of office.

Could they be floating a trial balloon to see what others countries may think?

Possibly. It would also get the Japanese and the rest of Southeast Asia in a snit and alot of weapons sales to them from us. The Aussies also wouldn't just set that one out. The one thing the Chinese seem to forget is tha tduring WWII is that the Japanese couldn't hold onto the whole thing and granted the tech is different but they at least had a huge Navy to keep us at bay with.

Ya know, I think Tom Clancy wrote a book about this very subject:

Why yes.  Yes he did.

I wonder if this means that Commies are predictable???
