Monster movie fest...
« on: September 30, 2011, 04:29:30 AM »
Since October will be starting tomorrow, many are already planning on doing month- long celebrations of various kinds (i.e. Syfy is doing their 31 Days of Halloween marathon schedule, my favorite Internet personality James Rolfe will be doing his annual Monster Madness review series). I was thinking about doing the same, or near enough to it. Each day in October that I'm able to (Which should be most days), I'll be watching a different scary movie, from all different time periods, from scary (i.e. 'Halloween,' 'Nightmare on Elm Street') to funny (i.e. 'The Monster Squad,' 'Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy,' both 'Rifftrax Live' events that used would- be horror movies, etc.), mostly theatrical releases, but also a couple that were direct- to- DVD that I thought were really good. I may post reviews of them right here in the Lounge after watching each of them. What I want to know is, would you guys like to see that/ read my reviews? Please let me know.
Until then, I'll see you at the movies!

THEM! is a must see. It was the first of the giant bug movies, and it introduced all the cliche's used later.
What sells this movie are two things. The acting and the giant ants.

The acting is wonderful and the actors love what they are doing.
The Ants are not guys in rubber suits, but 12'long puppets some of which were operated with a forklift. There was an effort to actually make them look real. the actors could interact with these great monsters.

If you haven't seen THEM! rent it. Its actually worth the time.

Oh!  Rifftrax is the MST3K guys newest project, right?  I was a huge mistie freak, what a collection I have.  I'd love to read your reviews.  I also try to catch as many scary movies in October as I can.

You'll find an audience with Mr. Mannn and me.  Possibly Vesta.   :-)

I love the month of October for the great horror flicks among other things.  Since I'm out of commission I'll be watching the tube more than ever.  I'd be interested in your reviews.  Am a big MST3K (especially the Joel episodes) and hadn't heard about Rifftrax.

What?!  Mike's cute, but Joel's so much, oh I don't know, cuddlier.
