There are things wrong with every government process I can think of. But making it easier for immigrants to enter this country can only exacerbate the problems we already have. Many of our problems now come not only from Mexico but from almost any country in the world since the "hate the USA" attitude is taking over.

I most certainly agree with the rest of your statement!

FWIW, the Wall Street Journal editorialized a day or two ago that easing the immigration process (which arguably is expensive, bureaucratic, and overly restrictive) would go a long way in easing the overall illegal immigration rate and allow the government (which currently doesn't do a helluva lot, but hey...) to focus on the real bad guys trying to get in -- you know, the terrorists.

Rounding up and deporting an estimated 15 million illegals is simply not gonna happen -- it's simply too expensive and likely as not, largely ineffective.

Putting up a fence, as Michele Bachmann advocates, is equally ineffective. Shades of the Berlin Wall, anyone? Tunneling and all sorts of ingenious ways of defeating the fence will come about, then you wind up spending money you didn't plan on spending just to try and stay ahead of the power curve.

After more than a few years of examining this problem and lamenting the ridiculousness of the feds and what they're doing and, more importantly, NOT doing, I'm inclined to agree and implement a practical way for easing the overall immigration process (thereby facilitating certain classifications of people -- like seasonal workers -- to come here and earn their money and pay their taxes. Other groups, like muzzies, deserve increased scrutiny.

What we're currently doing ain't working - simple as that. I'd like to see a general overhaul to the system and see the government actually do what the hell they're supposed to do, which is safeguard the damned borders.

Well since this has become sort of a "how do we deport all the illegals" thread.  There is no need in worrying about how to deport them when they can deport themselves.  All that needs to be done s, a few simple things.

1.  Make it illegal with stiff penalties (that are enforced) to hire illegals.  And when I say stiff I mean $100,000 per an unverified employee.
2.  Put aforementioned process in place that requires all employers to verify the legal status of their current employees and new hires.  This is as simple as a website/phone number that you submit/call with a minimum amount of information.  They get a simple Hire or Don't Hire reply.
3.  Put the same process in place for welfare services.  Food Stamps, Housing, Medical, etc...

When there is no jobs and no welfare it will create a trickle of self deportation.  And most of this can be enforced on the state levels with only minimal assistance from the Feds.  And since it can be enforced on the state level states can slowly roll this out so there isn't an over night bust of employment.

Will there be some stragglers?  Well of course, but I would imagine this would take care of the majority of our illegal aliens.

I think we should adopt some of the immigration laws of other countries.  No more letting people come in and living off government largess.

This country had the Bracero program from 1942 to 1964, and it worked.

We could actually adopt Mexican laws. Don't they just shoot anyone coming onto their land from El Salvador and like countries?

I have real strong opinions about illegals in this country, so I'll bow out of this conversation now.

Yes.  Drop a kid here and take it back home.  That was put into the constitution for a specific reason at the time.

I could get on board with this, or something like it. Gotta remove the demand for illegal cheap labor.

And yes, the anchor baby Amendment (No. 14) would have to go. Milking the system like this is yet another game illegals play to take advantage of a warm 'n fuzzy intention from long ago.

Yes it needs to be changed as discussed in  H.R. 1940, the "Birthright Citizenship Act of 2007" that Rep. Goode introduced in 2008. So far as the ones here that are citizens...  They can go with their parents or stay.  They will retain citizenship either way, but will not be able to sponsor their families when they turn 21.

That is the most difficult part of ridding the US of illegals, especially because there is no way to track it.  It's like trying to tax drug dealers.
