Oh crap! Add this to my list of things I didn't invent.
This Company Turns Plastic Bottles Back Into Crude Oil

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But if life gives you plastic? Make crude oil. Vadxx, an Ohio-based energy company, is taking even plastics that can't be recycled and reverting them to the material state from whence they came: crude oil.

Amazing breakthrough! But does anyone believe the evil oilsters will allow this miracle to come to market?
Surely you remember the eccentric scientist who invented a pill that created gasoline when dissolved in water.

There is this pesky Second Law of Thermodynamics to contend with. In my learned opinion it will take 1.25-1.5 gallons of oil to make 1.0 gallon of recycled bottle oil. Just like ethanol that delvers about .5 gallon of energy for each 1.0 gallon of real fuel used. It just does not make the energy balance.

Now, Laser Power Systems, a small R&D start-up in Connecticut, has announced a new design for a thorium engine that could be used in a future car. The idea is to provide engine power that’s cost-effective and perfectly safe for consumers.

Charles Stevens, Laser Power System's CEO and Chairman, told FoxNews.com that his design uses just eight grams of thorium to run...for years. The engine uses a laser that gets its energy from the decaying material to produce steam for an on-board turbine that runs a generator to power electric motors. The exact specifications for how this would work are still under wraps.

Stevens says just one gram of thorium would provide the equivalent of 7,500 gallons of gasoline, so a thorium-powered car could last for 300,000 miles or 5,000 hours of driving between fill-ups, by his calculations.

Stevens acknowledges that his project is in an early stage. Automakers are extremely cautious about new alternative fuels, and he’s incredulous about government involvement. “It’s easier to get billions to do stupid stuff [than] a few hundred million to do really smart stuff,” he says.

It was indeed tragic that all of those wonderful unicorns suffered a horrible, fiery death before they could be shipped out to all the DUers.

I'm now hearing rumors from other fictional spirit-guides that the 0 administration is looking into setting up a Department of Unicorns & Mystical Biology. Apparently D.U.M.B. will attempt to use mystical biology (whatever that is) to clone new unicorns from the ashes of the old in time for next year's election. No word yet on who will be the D.U.M.B. czar, but it is assumed that all current czars are qualified for DUMB.

Old news. This came out a couple of years ago. If I remember correctly it uses a giant microwave. I have a feeling it is not practical unless you use tons of gas to haul in the plastic from collection points and hook the microwave up to a nuclear reactor. But I can see the green weenies going for that because they will get to feel good about getting all that nasty ol plastic out of the land fill. Of course you can not just leave all that "oil" sitting around waiting to leak in to the ground so they will have to burn it and create CO2.

Oh, I talked to one otherwise-smart young Army officer years ago who thought you could connect a generator and an electric motor to drive each other and get free power.  I tried to explain the Second Law to him, I should have just stuck with "It's illegal" (Just like going more than 186,000 miles per second is 'against the law').
