An idea about members' locations.
« on: September 27, 2011, 10:21:19 AM »
The thread on the recent "peep-a-thon" gave me an idea. Would it be feasible/possible/desirable to have some kind of interactive map--almost push-pin style--where members could post their general locataion?

It think it would be really cool to see the geographical breakdown of membership on a map of some sort.

Thoughts?
Let nothing trouble you,
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.

It was tried on another board I used to post on, but it didn't amount to much. Nobody complained, but not very many participated.

It would require Javascript - which I keep turned off because I don't like somebody else installing/executing code on my machine.

Thread would need to be in Frank's thread that requires 1000 posts to get into for everyone's protection.

Maybe it could be done by state only? Then up to individuals to contact each other to see if they want interaction.

Do we really want everyone including the DUmp to know where we are?

My thoughts exactly.

It's already in the person's statistics, if he or she wants to have it there. That seems logical.

I wasn't thinking of a GPS location...more of a general area.

I know where my member is.
