Just a note on the McPhal family

I want to explain something about victims, having worked with a few over the years.

They WANTED this execution, not because they are evil, or depraved, or want a pound of flesh. They think, in the most honest of ways, that the death of Troy Davis will bring them peace.

I can ALMOST guarantee that this will not be the case. The families of people who die violent deaths think they will find that peace, but rarely do.

I do not begrudge them... I actually get it... but here is where justice has no place for human emotion. Emotions cloud our thinking and make us wish for things that are crazy... and at times... yes, smile at the death of another human being. It is socially inappropriate... but I get it. It truly is not black and white, it truly is not.

And I sincerely hope they find their peace... even if I doubt they will because that rarely happens. And that is the empty promise of the eye for an eye legal system.

This will move things though against the Death Penalty. Listen to the former warden who actually carried them... that is what we will need.

Thanks Warden for saying this too.

Don't hold your breath or swear your life to that Nadin because you would be wrong.

I know two people that witnessed an execution, they were DAMN happy.  Stupid wench.

I'm sorry.  This has me so wound up tonight.  The DUmp is sickening.

Be sure to add Quack Psychologist (is there another kind?) to nutcase nadin's resume.

Nadin says, "Emotions cloud our thinking and make us wish for things that are crazy..." Yep.  :-) You liberals have been doing that for years.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Perhaps we should add her resume to the diary thread.

Perhaps we should add her resume to the diary thread.

They're two separate nadin projects, but for now, I "stickied" the nadinresume to the top of the DUmping Ground as a companion piece to the secret diaries of nadin.

I'm sure they're going to be linked frequently, during the nominations for the Top DUmmies of 2011.

I know of a person that was employed at Great Meadow Correctional Facility here in NY as a supervisor for one of the workshops.
He said he went in there against the death penalty but after being around the inmates for less then a year had gotten to the point where he would be willing to be the one to throw the switch.

Wow, I took "Nuts and Sluts" in college, and even I don't begin to pretend to have anything more than a rudimentary knowledge of general psychology.

Yet nadin can do a weak-assed Google search and she's Freud, Harlow, Kinsey, and Skinner (among others) all rolled into one.

Lying on your back for $$$ doesn't count as working with them.  I highly doubt you've worked with anyone, in reality, since you're a pathalogical liar.

It will bring them closure, if not peace.  But we don't execute people to bring victims peace, Nadin.  We execute people to serve justice, to provide, hopefully, some small amount of disincentive for future scum to commit such horrible acts.  It was more of a disincentive before liberal lawyers got involved to keep these scumbags alive for an average of 18 years after the death sentence is handed to them, but that is the purpose.  The death sentence isn't about bringing "peace" to the victims, ergo your entire post is a logical fallacy wrapped in emotional, self-contradictory jibberish.  Nadin truly is a single brain-celled organism.

Quote

Yes, but the son of a bitch isn't alive to commit any more atrocities, and that's about as close to peace and closure as the family will get.  They'll always have a hole in their heart where the true victim was.

Quote
I do not begrudge them... I actually get it...
You get it?  Highly doubtful.  You don't seem to get much of anything.  Ever.  Again, more logical fallacy, since the point of executions isn't to bring peace to victims.

Social appropriateness is based largely on emotion these days.  You just said justice has no place for human emotion.  Make up your $@#%ing mind.  You simply have no earthly clue what the hell you're talking about, and this drivel makes zero sense.  You have a talent, Nadin, for taking one giant logical fallacy and filling it in with little tiny self-contradictions all along the way.

Quote

Peace isn't the ultimate goal here, moron.  Justice is.  We don't kill people to bring others peace, as I already mentioned, dufus. It does help with closure, though.

I've recently discovered something, it called the Dunning–Kruger effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect).

I have always maintained that with ignorance comes arrogance (see 0bama) but the DKe actually explains it and the DUmp is full of it.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Oh my, sir.

You've led us to the best possible definition of Skins's island, ever.

Damn, you're good.

Quote
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled people make poor decisions and reach erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to recognize their mistakes. The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their ability as above average, much higher than it actually is.....

Quote
Although the Dunning–Kruger effect was put forward in 1999, David Dunning and Justin Kruger have quoted Charles Darwin ("Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge") and Bertrand Russell ("One of the painful things about our time is that those who feel certainty are stupid, and those with any imagination and understanding are filled with doubt and indecision") as authors who have recognised the phenomenon.

Quote
Kruger and Dunning proposed that, for a given skill, incompetent people will:

   1. tend to overestimate their own level of skill;
   2. fail to recognize genuine skill in others;
   3. fail to recognize the extremity of their inadequacy;
   4. recognize and acknowledge their own previous lack of skill, if they can be trained to substantially improve.

I wasn't aware that anyone had managed to attach their names to it.  "The arrogance of ignorance," a literary term of indeterminate age, is the phrase I have always used to describe the phenomenon.

Well, but you're aware how the same old stuff (in this case, ancient wisdom) always gets repackaged under a new brand-name.

That's the phrase I've often used to describe those, like Nadin, who believe erroneously, that they are superior to all other mere mortals.  I think the Dunning–Kruger effect describes the literary term quite accurately.

In addition to being all scientific sounding we can now just say (or type) DKe instead of the arrogance of ignorance. Saves on the old keyboard and vocal chords.

Sadly, of such highjackings are academic credentials made.  I still recall being flummoxed on a sociology exam by a question about 'Floyd Merton's Canon,' which I did not at that moment recall from the reading (Beyond the fact there was such a thing), only to find out ruefully in looking it up immediately afterward that it was merely the re-branding of Occam's Razor with a sociologist's name slapped on it.
