A wholly suprising thread for which I was completely unprepared

Legalize drugs. Yeah, you heard me, ALL OF THEM

"But - what about Meth/Heroin/PCP/Boogeydrug of Choice?????"

OK - let's play a thought experiment. Let's say Crystal Meth is legalized. Completely. How long do you think the clandestine meth labs will stay open, with their toxic chemicals and watered down product? When a user could walk down to CVS, and get Desoxyn (trade name for methamphetamine) over the counter? With users and addicts able to get the real stuff, without cuts or adulterants, why would they want to buy from the Zetas?

The drug gangs and meth labs would be out of business in minutes.

Same goes for Heroin - and it would reduce the chances of overdose, since when a user used 10mg, it really would be 10mg, and they would know their dose.

Of course, this means Law Enforcement doesn't get to fill up their prisons with non-violent offenders, something they are scrambling to do more and more every year.

This would mean the courts wouldn't be packed, cops wouldn't be given carte blanche to stop anyone for "suspicion."

"But - what about that crazy drug user who goes nuts and kills a bunch of people?"

What about him? Most of you don't want to make religion illegal because of 9/11. And I can guarantee you, the heroin user - he's not doing anything. Literally. He or she doesn't even want to eat, let alone kill.

Didn't they say the same thing about re-legalizing alcohol back in the 1930's?  If this DUmbass was right, then the shinerunners should have been put out of business 80 years ago.
"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and then bid the geldings to be fruitful."

C.S. Lewis

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

What utter bullshit.  This person postulates as though junkies were rational thinkers.  Effin idiot.  Someone I love very dearly is a junky, and believe me, I wouldn't use the word rational at all.  He is not measuring his 10 mg and thinking, "Okay, I'm done for the day!"   Can you imagine the lawsuits from the parents of ODs?  Oh, I suppose you could make rules/laws that stipulated the amount you could buy in any given day, imposing strict sentences on offenders, but then...oh...I see what I've done there.

Most of the drug users don't turn to crime because of the scarcity of drugs, but because they can't/won't get jobs to earn money for their drugs.  That is why they commit crimes such as theft, burglary and murder.  Legalizing drugs would do nothing to change that.

46. Only if it's ALL FREE
Cash flow will guarantee illegal trade - the exact opposite of the argument for the legalization.

Of course.  They're not even willing to pay for their own recreational drugs.  Where the hell do they think they're living?

I look in my crystal ball....I see a weepy post by Taverner in the future; something about Child Protective Services of California.

Legalizing drugs is racist and anti-poor IMO, they'll be the biggest victims if this happened.

I believe they are probably thinking that an EBT card can be used to buy drugs if they are legalized.  :argh:

Hey Tavs, who would hire your worthless, drug-ravaged ass to earn even the 'Minimal' amount to buy those legal drugs?  Or were you planning to ride the disability train on that, since once the drugs are legalized, your addiction becomes a 'disease' instead of you being specifically excluded from disability coverage as a mere lowlife abuser of illegal drugs?

Taverner is on to something here, but as usual he's a lazy, drug-besotted DUmbass, so he does the job in a half-assed manner.

If we legalized EVERYTHING, we would eliminate the entire law enforcement establishment, and the whole prison system.
The savings would run high into the billions.

Wait until they can't afford their next fix, dipshit.  Then they'll kill, rob, etc.  So, your offered guarantee is rejected, moron.

Actually Taverner may be on to a great idea. We let all the worthless members of society do as many drugs as they want and within a few months, all that will be left is productive people. The only problem is there may be some collateral damage, but we can counter that by allowing decent people to arm themselves and shoot the junkies on sight.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

I am all for this, if and only if, no medical treatment is given to the users. NONE. I am open to paying for a cremation but nothing else.

I will agree with Taverner's idea, if he agrees to mine:  open season, and no bag limit on anyone under the influence of said drugs.

I am completely confounded at what these effin idiots think "free" means.  Pulled out of thin air?  Their asses?  Off of magic trees?  Subsidized by little money-printing machines you can buy from the back page of comic books?

I love how they capitalized it, too.  Like a demand.  That's the DU mantra:

Only if it's ALL FREE.  NOW!

The points made about daily limits, not being able to afford the next hit, etc. are good ones.  I know a girl who, uh, took to the streets for her crack habit.  Comes from a respectable family, too.  Addicts will do anything, anything to get the next hit.  They don't just sit there happily watching Spongebob.

Taverner and the rest never think beyond square one.  What happens next?  Duuh I dunno.  Idiots.

I am a peaceful, friendly person - one of the great advantages of the self confidence gained through self defense training.

Even so, I want to club that ignorant piece of excrement with a maglight for ten minutes for not only being so stupid, but for trying to be contagious with his stupidity.

He's known hundreds of PCP freaks? Wow - that's a helluva social circle to be bragging about. Maybe it really is only one person, but he is always so high he forgets he knows this person every time he meets them.

Capitalism is based on self-interest and self-esteem; it holds integrity and trustworthiness as cardinal virtues and makes them pay off in the marketplace, thus demanding that men survive by means of virtue, not vices. It is this superlatively moral system that the welfare statists propose to improve upon by means of preventative law, snooping bureaucrats, and the chronic goad of fear.
