Netflix fiasco!!
« on: September 19, 2011, 12:25:26 PM »
Did anyone else get an email from Reed Hastings today? I guess he is separating Netlix up? Keeping Netflix for streamimg and "Quickster" for the Dvd aspect.
I imagine he must be doing this for accounting and  inventory reasons. I guess there is going to be 2 separate queue's, and 2 different listing on your credit card bill, if you do both.

If you read the Netflix blog, customers are not the happiest of campers at this moment.gnashing of teeth, and stomping their feet.
I was going to bump my other Netflix thread, but it hasn't been used in 120 days

Yeah, I got that e-mail too.  I'm not sure I like the new "branding" of the mail service.  Qwikster sounds awfully dorky.

Yup--same thing.  Not sure I want to keep Netflix (don't have the DVD option) if the price goes up.  Back to Redbox.

Didn't they lose a million customers when this was only a rumor?

ETA:

I guess they are expecting to lose that many. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2011/09/netflix-expects-a-million-fewer-subscribers-in-wake-of-plan-change.ars

So they're going to blow all their advertising and brand equity by renaming the DVD rental "Quickster"?  Stupid, stupid move.

It doesn't really affect me.  We have Netflix streaming through our PS3.  No DVD service though.  If I wanted to watch movies, I'll just go to the Red Box at Walmart.

I don't have the patience to sit through an entire movie.  The last time I rented a DVD, it took me three days to watch it.

Quickster sounds a lot like Quickstar (the name AMWAY took to try to convince people that they weren't AMWAY).  Either way it is stupid and annoying.  Almost as annoying as the people who had explosive diarrhea when Netflix originally announced they were splitting the streaming and DVD part of their business.  I am trying to figure out why anyone gives a crap really.  The price went up slightly, but it does that all of the time anyway.  Some people acted like they were trying to clone Jesus so they could re-crucify him. ::)

This.

Has anyone seen the prices of food lately?  If Netflix is "too much money" for you now, cancel it.  Netflix isn't a necessity.  You should be more outraged that a gallon of milk now costs $4.  Forget the fact Netflix raised their price by a dollar or two.

I can understand why they would raise the price for streaming. A family could watch one movie right after the other for somewhat of a low cost. What is the comparison cost for pay on demand?? We are paying for a service. I don't understand people these days.
Heck I can come to the CC and get entertained for free!!!!

Because the DVD/streaming option was the only reason I was staying with Netflix.  If the streaming-only option had most of the Netflix library, I might understand, but I'd frankly be surprised if they had 1/3 of it.  Try streaming a classic movie through them.  Hell, try streaming anything even remotely popular released in the last 5 years.

The streaming option sucks balls compared to what they COULD do if they wanted.  I'd be happy to pay a couple extra bucks a month if they had better selection streaming, but at this rate, I'm fine dumping their asses.  60 percent increase for the same service over a month ago?  Screw them.

I just checked:  I have 99 movies in my instant queue, but I never seem to get around to watching any of them.  Either old movies that I've already seen or ones that don't look all that much worth watching.  But I think I'll stick with streaming Netflix for a while since even a crappy movie is still better than watching an infomercial.  That's a big gripe of mine, whenever I'm in the mood for watching some TV, all that seems to be on is infomercials.  Stuart Pankin and the Walk Fit Phase Four orthotics are going to drive me nuts.

I got the mea-culpa email as well. From what i understand because he lost so many subscribers he is now not raising the prices! The streaming and the dvd service will be billed seperately as they are seperate entities now but the prices will stay as they are.

Too late, we dumped it.
