Grocery Union issues 72-hour warning that strike is near

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego grocery workers for Ralphs, Vons and Albertsons stores could go on strike as early as Sunday evening.

The union that represents Southern California grocery workers on

Thursday gave the grocery chains a notice of its intention to cancel the current contract extension in 72 hours, possibly paving the way for a strike.

According to the union, grocery workers will begin final strike preparations after the deadline expires, massing at local union headquarters to assemble signs, stockpiling food for strikers and their families, and continuing picket training.

Personal note, did stock up, and told workers we will not cross picket line.

What's going on here?

I thought Nadin only posted the "nooz" here. Not her Opinions. Shouldn't Skins be made aware of this back-sliding biotch?

But it was thoughtful of her to put more money into the grocery stores tills, after all their customer base may drop .02 to .03% during the strike. If it's  going to be like the grocery worker strike in St. Louis back in the nineties, all the strikers were going to the competitor stores so they wouldn't be recognized by their picketing co-workers.

72 regular hours? Or 72 business hours?

If it was business hours every can relax for a few decades.

Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Okay, while I've been everywhere east, I've never been west of Anaconda, Montana in my life.

nadin says three supermarket chains in San Diego are going to be affected--Albertson's, Ralph's, and Von's.

One imagines San Diego has a whole lot more grocery stores than that, and so a strike against these three can't possibly add up to more than a hill of beans?

Whole Foods, SuperTargets, Trader Joe's...yeah, I think they'll manage to survive a few clerks picketing here and there.

We use that anymore... SMALL fridge

Once again, what's this "small fridge" business? Now we learn nutcase nadin buys canned milk because her crappy little apartment doesn't have room for a regular refrigerator.

She told us we must buy canned milk because of all the strontium-90 showering down from "Fiuki"! Not because of tiny efficiency apartment fridges.
All the DUmbasses who depended on nutcase nadin to protect them from leukemia have spent half their foodstamps on exorbitant canned milk prices.

Have they been duped again by the know-it-all?
This subject is too hot. More comment at the usual place.

I don't know who to send it to but you've given me a better(?) idea. I'm going to send a white light thought form in my image, complete with shopping cart,  crossing the picket line and shopping and then send that.

I hope they have some automatic check outs 'cause I don't like standing in line.

You know, nadin uses such obscure phrases one's compelled to google them, to find out what the Hell she's saying.

"shelf-stable."

Quote
Shelf Stable Food? Not so Stable

Boca Raton, FL, February 2, 2010 — Many people do not realize the dangers of shelf stable foods. A shelf stable food is one normally stored in the refrigerator which has been altered so that it can be stored at room temperature for a long shelf life.

Bariatric physician Dr. Sasson “Dr. Sass” Moulavi, M.D. asks the question, “Shelf stable food contains bacteria which do not eat the food. If bacteria is not eating it, why are you?” He explains that many weight loss companies use shelf stable food as part of their program. It is easily shipped unrefrigerated, reduces costs and increases profits. The consumers get all the risks and very few benefits.

The risks arise from the various food preservation techniques used to extend a food’s shelf life. Decreasing the amount of water, increasing its acidity, or irradiating/sterilizing the food and then sealing in an air-tight container, can all extend a food’s shelf life. Additives such as sodium phosphate are used to make food last a very long time unrefrigerated. Many countries have banned some of the preservatives to produce shelf stable foods that are still allowed in the United States.

Another reason to increase shelf life revolves around common oils and fats that would become rancid quickly if not refrigerated. Food manufacturers replaced these oils and fats with trans fats in order to delay the onset of rancidity thus increasing shelf life. Would you eat an unrefrigerated chicken and pasta dish that is over a year old? Yet many weight loss companies want customers to do just that.

Dr. Sass advises consumers to stay away from shelf stable food altogether. “If you think it should be refrigerated or frozen, you are probably right,” he says. Instead, use as much fresh and preferably organic based diet foods. Frozen entrees are usually not a problem but the label should be checked to be sure. Dr. Sass also recommends eating fresh chicken, fish and seafood, explaining that frozen is good as well, especially if it is organic.

“It pays to be educated about the food you eat,” Dr. Sass concludes. “Once you know what goes into the foods you eat, you can better build your body to be as healthy as possible.”

There's something highly unnatural about milk (or even beer) that's sold warm.

I wouldn't touch either with a ten-foot primitive, myself.

It's just in the natural order of things that some things need to be kept cold for consumption.

Oh no.  ::)

It's not like people won't cross the picket line to feed their families.  I'm not sure what a grocery store strike (or any strike) is going to do.  It's not going to scare people.  And you're not going to get your way, DUmmies.

I don't usually shop at the big three but am looking forward to crossing the picket lines as often as possible.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I have a shortage of decent and civilized people to use as characters in "the secret diaries of nadin."
