The single dumbest comment (Cheer for Bush prior to reading)
« on: September 11, 2011, 03:34:33 PM »
The thread on the island is around President Bush getting a small cheer before he read from an Abraham Licoln letter while President Obama did not get a cheer before he read a Psalm...

The reason that I brought it over was because one of the replies is the single dumbest thing I have ever seen in my life...

"Unlike Mr. Obama, Mr. Bush drew a brief cheer from the crowd before his reading."
Wha...? From the NY Times report "Bush and Obama: Side by Side at Ground Zero":

Mr. Obama read from Psalm 46: “God is our refuge and strength.” Mr. Bush read a letter from Abraham Lincoln to Lydia Bixby, a widow in Massachusetts who was believed to have lost five sons in the Civil War. Unlike Mr. Obama, Mr. Bush drew a brief cheer from the crowd before his reading.

The tableau was striking: the president who spent years hunting Bin Laden next to the one who finally got him. The president defined by his response to Sept. 11 standing alongside the one who has tried to take America beyond the lingering, complicated legacy of that day.

Why, oh why, did Bush get cheers when Obama didn't? Because Obama caves too much?

This is the reply that got my attention...

8. 9/11 needs to be toned down
The guttural, animal side responses from the republicans will always be heard over the more refined cultural repose of being content with oneself that we know that it is the democratic party always left to clean up their mess. Do not be mislead by such noise and distraction.

That fool needs to realize her opinion is in the minority, if she wants to be somewhere that the majority share that opinion? move to Europe! Oh wait, right wing POV's are winning in Europe too, so the leftwing POV is irrelevant it seems worldwide.

I wasn't aware that either one of them was actually on the ground looking for him over there. I gave credit where credit was due. To the good men at DEVGRU. Because it happened during Obama's (and I hope it is a one term) presidency is just an accident of timing. Not the president's leadership.

That because of how the US reacted to the events on 9/11/01, bin laden succeeded beyond his wildest dreams - mentioned how we OVER- and inappropriately reacted to the events, and the damage that has been done - and will continue to do for goodness knows how long - to our country, our economy and its culture. Noted that no one has been asked to sacrifice a single cent for the endless wars.

My wife and I were cheering the radio. Neil Conant (sp?) had nothing really to say in response - speechless, one wonders?

Not really.  The DUmb**** POV is big in Caracas and Teheran.

If anything, we under-reacted.  I don't know why we didn't bomb the shit out of all arab theocracies on the evening of 9/11.

Ah, that is why the White House Press office set up the cheering groupies at the Pentagon wreath laying ceremony.    Except the wreath laying ceremony has very strict protocols which the White House pissed all over in order for the Messiah to get some rock star screeching applause.

Nauseating.

I'm with you. I think we showed a monumental amount of restraint. More than I would have.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

If you have to tell others that you are refined and cultured then YOU AIN'T refined or cultured. At best you are a pretentious poser.

I have been to some of the best museums in the world, I listen to classical and opera, I read classic literature. And at the end of the day I don't pretend I am not going home in my pick up to drink a beer out of the can while eating Slim Jim's and watching Burn Notice. And I am pretty comfortable with that.

I'll never be president. If I were the CinC on Sept. 11, 2001, I'd have ordered bombers and their escorts flying low-altitude, high visibility missions over Mecca, Tehran, Baghdad, Damascus, and Khabul. I wouldn't have ordered bombings, perhaps, bud I'd have made it clear that hellfire was coming if the "Arab Street" chose not to cooperate.
