My wife was a gate agent for what was then America West Airlines. She had just pushed the jetway back from her first departure of the morning when the phone line at the jetway control station rang. It was the control tower (Tower NEVER contacts the gates like this, so this is already unusual as hell in her book) ordering her to get that airplane back to the gate, and get everybody off the plane, now. Somehow, she managed to get the pilot's attention, and then the attention of the guy running the tug below her, and they got the plane moved back into place at the gate. A whole manifest of passengers looking confused and wondering why the plane wasn't leaving for their destination, followed by a flight crew with the same looks of confusion on their faces. Following the instructions she'd been given from the tower, after everybody was off, she went through the plane on a security sweep, then headed back up the jetway to the gate, and it was only as she got back up there and took a moment to look at the television running the CNN broadcast that she finally got the news that the Islamofascists had attacked the WTC, and that the FAA had grounded all flights.
