Longshoremen storm Wash. port over labor dispute (overpowered and held 6 security guards)

Edited on Thu Sep-08-11 12:41 PM by Omaha Steve
Source: AP-Excite

LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) - Hundreds of Longshoremen stormed the Port of Longview early Thursday, overpowered and held security guards, damaged railroad cars, and dumped grain that is the center of a labor dispute, said Longview Police Chief Jim Duscha.

Six guards were held hostage for a couple of hours after 500 or more Longshoremen broke down gates about 4:30 a.m. and smashed windows in the guard shack, he said.

No one was hurt, and nobody has been arrested. Most of the protesters returned to their union hall after cutting brake lines and spilling grain from car at the EGT terminal, Duscha said.

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union believes it has the right to work at the facility, but the company has hired a contractor that's staffing a workforce of other union laborers.

If this is true, the hostage-takers need to be arrested and tried for kidnapping.

Do any of the DUchebags know that this was one union versus another union.

Yep that's right one union got the contract and the other went in and committed at least four different felonies multiple times.

Buying ammo from the WAL-MART here is a lot of trouble. First you have to find an employee, then he goes in search of someone who knows who has the key to the ammo case, then they both go in search of that person who seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth.

Personally, I like the way it was when I was a kid, every country store had a shelf full of the more popular brands and sizes of ammo. You just walked in and got all you could afford or put in an order for what you wanted and it would be there within the week.

Them were the days when I had an account at the hardware store down the street and would walk in, grab a brick of .22's, yell to the guy put 'em on my account (dad's actually) and pay the bill at the end of the month.

Seems lilke it was all a dream now.  The old neighborhood had a nice natural ridge line behind the house just made for a target shooting. I would get home from school and open up for a few minutes of target practice several times a week.   Today, at the first shot, that same neighborhood would be swarming with SWAT teams dressed up like latter day Ninjas.   :fuelfire:

So the idiot union workers show their disappointment by kidnapping other union workers and holding them hostage.  Brilliant.  Typical uneducated thuggery by the leftists.  Here you have an ACTUAL terrorist act committed and no talking head will DARE to call this what it is.  No arrests?  WTF?

The unions operate under special rules that make organized crime envious (and is one reason they wanted in to labor unions years ago).

4. Counter-productive at best, dumbass more likely

From the article: "The International Longshore and Warehouse Union believes it has the right to work at the facility, but the company has hired a contractor that's staffing a workforce of other union laborers."

So, it's not a union versus non-union fight, it's a 'my union' versus 'the other union' fight.

Hostage taking? Are you f'ing kidding me? Way to rally public support. Thank God the security guards were unarmed or 'exercised restraint'. Personally, I hope the organizers are arrested and charged with kidnapping. Domestic terrorism is NOT acceptable by ANY side.

You people make me sick. Taking hostages will never advance your cause. It only gives Republicans more fuel to use against unions.

November 11, 1919. In the shadow of where this union action took place today, the Centralia Massacre resulted in six deaths, additional wounded, and multiple prison terms when the Wobblies fought the American Legion.

This is union territory. Always has been, always will be. You scab for the bosses, there are consequences.

We find ourselves living in a small town with just such a store down on the corner (about a mile away). We had been here probably two years when my son went in one day to pick up some drinks and such before he went to mow lawns and the owner asked him if he just wanted to "put it on your parent's account." Next time I was in, the owner told me we could put anything except alcohol or tobacco on credit and he'd send a bill at the end of the month. Nothing says "your one of us" like being extended credit at the country store.  :)

Sure they would cheer it on. O'Reilly was talking about this tonight asking where's the media coverage of it, his guest said there was a poll out that shows 2/3rds of the respondents are against the Union at this point, as usual the DU would be in the minority.
