The dumpster dwelling cavemen are very interested in this thread. It's probably as intriguing as watching paint dry.
Say hello!

And shouldn't that comment be a red flag right there? why are people who scream about raising taxes constantly, why are they avoiding that thread?

hack89 is trying to speak truth to stupid.  On DU, that usually ends up with a tombstone sooner or later.

Yes, at the DUmp, truth is hazardous to ones health. As a matter of fact, it is the leading killer of posting DUmmies. We should start a fund raising drive to cure the horrible dreaded disease of "Truthitis". It attacks both the young and old DUmmies.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

I bet that those jobs that were killed by the draconian tax increases in illinois will have millions of jobs coming to that great state in 48-60 business hours.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

1. Well, states can't print money...

And Illinois has had budget problems for a while now.
http://illinois.statehousenewsonline.com/6646/illinois-... /

Illinois did raise income taxes, but it is not enough. Obviously the weaker national economy doesn't help the fiscally troubled states like CA, IL & NJ.

Edit - if the claim that Illinois has 140 billion in unfunded retirement obligations is true, their pain has just begun. You can't make up that type of shortfall just from tax increases, so they will both have to raise taxes, cut spending and modify their obligations to retirees to make it work.

Dirty rethug. Stop telling those freeper talking points. They've been sprouting that meme for years.

5. You're right

Revenues go up all by themselves when jobs are increased, but there is a limit as to how much you can increase taxes without killing jobs.

The answer to Illinois' problems is to increase private jobs in relationship to public jobs - by definition, government jobs are a net drain on the economy. Here is where our national woes come in - it's very hard to accomplish that task in the current setting.

Somebody should send yo-yo an invite to join here. He's one of us.

Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

You mean Illinois raised taxes and it didn't help? do ya think maybe businesses were driven out of the State?

BTW, NJ is doing pretty good.

Not only businesses, Ballygrl, but regular folk as well.  My sister and her husband are economic refugees from IL-fled inflated property and income taxes last year to resettle in the great state of Texas.

I was comparing my annual property taxes with a very dear friend who lives in IL. Mine total $720 for the whole year. Hers are ridiculous! $3500 just to school tax, and then she has to pay "registration fees" for each of her children to attend "free" public education. Her total property tax for this year is $7500!!! They also own a business there, for the time being anyway.

Frank, dear sir, your opus is so maganimously altruistic.  It is almost more than my poor sensibilities can bear, the lamentable fact that Skimmer never deigns to respond.  One would surmise the poor man is terrified of engaging in a civil, reasoned discourse and interchange of ideas with you.  On the other hand, he IS a Democrat.

Oh WOW! in case the links don't work because they're in the quotes, here they are:

Ill. Toll Authority approves fee hikes

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local/illinois&id=8326527

Quote
The Illinois Toll Authority voted Thursday to almost double what it charges people to use its roadways.

Anyone with an I-PASS will see their basic toll jump from 40 to 75 cents starting next year. Drivers using cash to pay tolls will be paying twice what I-PASS users pay.

Before the 7-1 vote, the board heard more testimony favoring the increase as a way to jumpstart the region's economy.

Legislation to Raise Electric Rates Heads to Gov. Quinn’s Desk

Quote
Legislation to raise electric rates to help pay to modernize the Illinois’ power grid is on its way to the desk of Gov. Pat Quinn, despite his repeated pledges to veto it.

The energy bill would raise electric rates as part of a $3 billion, 10-year plan to give Commonwealth Edison and Ameren money for basic infrastructure and a modern Smart Grid.

The bill would allow a 2.5 percent annual rate increases for the first three years. ComEd bills are projected to climb about $36 a year, while Ameren customers would pay about $34 more by the project’s 10th year.

It’s estimated consumers might save $7 to $10 per month by using smart meters.

Chicago Public Schools board rescinds teacher raises, angers union

Mayor Rahm Emanuel's handpicked Chicago Public Schools board drew a battle line between the new administration and the teachers  union with its first official act when it voted Wednesday to rescind the 4 percent annual raise due to teachers and other school union members.

The board's unanimous vote, allowed under a provision of the contract that is set to expire in 2012, saves an estimated $100 million as the city's public schools confront a deficit now pegged at $712 million for the coming year.

Nope, and I don't expect him to.

Remember, he has an obligation to the primitives (although the primitives apparently don't think they're obligated to him, when it comes to following his rules).

If my fellow alum were to respond, it would be an acknowledgement that franksolich really exists.

If one thinks the primitives are nuts now, that's nothing, compared to how paranoid they'd get if Skins recognized that franksolich is real.

Hmmmm.

That's really odd.

We got lots and lots of primitives coming to look at this thread.

One wonders why, what attracts them.

Okay, all day long I've been watching the primitives watch this thread.

It's like they're looking for something, and can't find it.

Decent and civilized people are free to ignore, and move on to another thread.

I beg your pardon! we're not all men here TYVM!

And no, I won't show my boobs LOL.

Oh my.

During the night, I was sent an e-mail from a source on Skins's island saying "mission accomplished" re: this thread.

Apparently it most certainly riled up the primitives, and I'm sure that sooner or later the vexation of the primitives is going to leak out.

For those who are curious why franksolich would post (and then take down) a somewhat PG-rated photograph of himself, refer to my oft-made comment about being willing to "take one for the team."

If franksolich being a clown is what it takes to disarray the primitives, well then, franksolich is perfectly happy to play the role of clown.  After all, this had been my main role in Scamdy.  If I had to do cart-wheels atop a barbed-wire fence to discombobulate the primitives, well, I'd do it.

For the Greater Good; for the discombobulation of the primitives.

For those who are confused about what this is about, what was going on was that every so often I posted, and then took down after a couple of minutes, a certain photograph of myself.  The photograph was pretty innocuous, and taken at such an angle (four years ago) that my personal identification in real life is impossible, because my head was turned; hippyhubby Wild Bill can roam all over the roof of Nebraska with that picture, and still come up dry, when looking for franksolich in real life.

The "history" of the photograph was explained here some months ago.

I waited until there were no members at this thread, only "guests," posted, and then watched.  This required that I had three windows open on conservativecave, so as to watch all parts (no "moderator powers" were used in this project; any member can do the same thing).  The "guests" would see the picture, and then immediately rush off to Skins's island to tell the other primitives.  And as the primitives dashed over here to look at the picture, I immediately hit "modify comment", deleting the picture.

There were many primitives going all over, up and down, this thread, looking for something that was no longer there.  It was hilarious, watching the primitives scramble; I wish I could've televised it.

It was just by random accident our esteemed colleague Banned popped up on this thread, and I wasn't quick enough to hit the "modify comment" button, and so he saw a side of franksolich few have ever seen--although really, there's been much much much more exposed in the Lounge and the Shortbus here, than this.

As far as I know--I was watching closely--our colleague Banned was the only "member" who could've possibly seen that picture, and I hope to God he's not embarrassed having seen it, because really, there was nothing extraordinary about that picture, just an average picture of an average guy.

By the way, due to lighting, it seemed as if there was a green tone to franksolich's skin.  franksolich's skin does not have a green tone.  It's the photograph, not franksolich.

I suppose some might think it was juvenile--I thought so myself even before I did it--but remember, if being juvenile is what it takes for franksolich to disarray the primitives, well then, franksolich will happily be juvenile.  For the Greater Good, for the discombobulation of the primitives.

Unfortunately, as no one (other than Banned) seems to have seen the picture, the question still remains: if a primitive met franksolich in real life, and didn't know he was franksolich, would the primitive hit on franksolich?

No sir, not at all.

Ballygrl is a lady, and I'm a gentleman, both of us people of refinement.

I had a lot of fun doing this, though, watching all the ISP numbers stampeding here from Skins's island.

But other than the unfortunate case of our esteemed colleague Banned, who probably saw more than he wished to see, I had a rather quick finger on the "modify post" button, and so alas! for the primitives.

I'm a nice guy, one of the nicest guys one can ever hope to meet, but just as with everybody else, there is a slight streak of sadism in the character, healthily directed against the primitives and no one else.

If you've been around, surely you must know that GOBUCKS here, and BadCat at our old home, have the reputations for loathing and detesting the primitives more than anybody else.

That's only a reputation, though; the reality is no one, but no one, could possibly dislike the primitives more than franksolich, whose real life has been a ceaseless struggle against the defeatism, the dependency, the despondency which Democrats, liberals, and primitives wish to impose on those of us in any one of the various "protected classes."

I really hate the primitives, and wish they'd hurry up and self-destruct.

True...surprising, but not shocking.

I've laid the photograph aside for a bit, but generally, there's a key phrase in my comments that alerts one to that mischief's afoot, and the primitives have 30-60 seconds to catch something.

It usually looks something like this:
