Joey Vento dead at 71

South Philly legend Joey Vento, who opened Geno's Steaks at 9th and Passyunk in 1966, died today of a massive heart attack. Vento was 71.

Vento's nephew Joseph Perno, 50, said Vento had come to work this morning. When Perno came in for his night shift, he found out that Vento had suffered a fatal heart attack. "He was here every morning," Perno said. "He was here this morning. He was dedicated to his business and his family."

I admired that scrappy guy for his politically-incorrect stance.

He was unapologetic and true to himself and his family to the idea that foreigners -- while they have every right to speak their own language among themselves -- do NOT have a God-given right to expect others around them to speak their language, to wit in a business within this country.

Wanna survive in this country? Even thrive? Then get off your dead asses and learn the friggin' language, Sport.

And get the **** out of my house of cheesesteaks until you do.

Real simple. I like that.  :-)

Rest in peace, Joey. God speed and may your family's pain be eased at your passing.

Fox News replayed some of his interview clips after his passing.  His ranting about foreign languages made me smile.

Was it Man vs. Food that did a show at both locations?  Those sandwiches look tasty.

I miss Mr. Vento. He was a class act.
Let nothing trouble you,
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.
