Wanted: Drivers doing the speed limit

Nancy Stevens thinks she knows how to solve the problem of hasty drivers zipping along Yorba Linda's boulevards and byways: An army of vehicles with yellow "pace car" stickers roaming the city's streets at the speed limit.

Doing that, Stevens believes, will create "moving speed bumps" that will force other drivers to slow down.

I don't know about driving in the US, but here if they did that in Halifax they'd be hit from behind in short order. The speed limit outside the city is 100kph but the flow of traffic is near 130kph on a nice sunny day and doing the speed limit will put you in a very bad situation.

I've seen some stickers about moving speed bumps on cars in town and the people who have them are the seniors who already drive 20 kph under the limit.

They should hand them out to all AARP members as a warning to other drivers.

An interesting phenomenon about stationary type speed bumps that might come in handy for someone someday:  If you drive over them at high speed, you hardly feel them.  It takes some guts to do it the first time, but the inertia of the vehicle keeps it from bouncing like it does at low speed.  It makes quite a thump and I would recommend you do it with somebody else's car not your own, but it really works.  Something good to know if you ever find yourself behind the wheel of a getaway car.

The same thing is true about going over railroad tracks. I laugh when I see people in big four-wheel drives crawl across the tracks and and they are bouncing around the cab.

Well dat 'splains it! Sheesh! I thought I was witnessing this here in my area until I noticed the culprits all had Ontario license plates. Much honking of horns, gnashing of teeth and half o' peace sign flashed at them.
Being close to the border these are obviously Canadians unwittingly believing they are indeed observing the posted speed limits but they're reading their speedometers in kph. 55 kph is 34.18 mph!
