How many people here have fairly serious dental problems that are not getting treatment because of the cost of dental care?

My wife has to have a root canal/crown on a tooth that she broke--we have good insurance. Even with that, our out of pocket expenses will still be pretty high, and this one procedure will use most of the insurance benefits for the year.

I wonder how many people just flat couldn't afford to have this taken care of.

On edit: there seems to be some confusion. We are taking care of this--just giving up a vacation (not whining, just saying that we can afford it with painless cutbacks)--the post is about how many people don't have anything more to cut back on.

It's a large bonfire; apparently dental problems are endemic, ubiquitous, among the primitives.

It's that old hippie attitude, "oh, I can do anything I want, and medicine'll take care of the consequences."

Does anyone here know, besides amphetimenes, if any other recreational drugs are known to cause severe dental problems?

Of course booze does that.  And sugary stuff too.

You know, the standard things consumed by the primitives.

The bonfire's mostly primitives whining that George Bush won't personally fix their teeth.

This one was of interest.

43. I have gotten crowns for $200 in Mexicali

Or whatever the border town is there. If you want more info, pm me and I'll give you email of the dentist I went to. He was very good, gentle, sanitary, and the crowns are all good. This was a yr ago. I need to make another trip down soon for another crown.

The snobbish primitive is hard-of-hearing (a condition not the same thing as being deaf), and I wonder.

The only women I've known, in my entire life, who chew tobacco have been women who were, or are, deaf.

I wonder if the snobbish primitive dips, which isn't good for the teeth.

And then this was of interest:

7. One of my closest friends had a tooth fall out not long ago

She hasn't had dental insurance in years and couldn't afford to go to the dentist. So her tooth got rotten enough it just fell out.

You know, as a deaf person, I pay much attention to the mouth and dental condition of other people; it's one of the ways I "hear."  In fact, the mouth of the other person is usually the first thing I notice, before the sex, size, approximate age, appearance, whatever.

The dysmenopausal Kansas school teacher is a vociferous member of that Pink Underwear Gang, and the internet is always spotted with photographs of one of their really stupid events.

I'm going to have to look a little closer at the dental condition of those pinko bitches, when a photograph's posted somewhere.

The words "painless" and "dental" don't belong in the same sentence.

Marijuana, along with some sedatives and barbiturates cause dry mouth, which can promote bacterial growth and tooth decay. Likewise, some of the older tricyclic antidepressants, of which many DUmmies have been on I'm sure, dry the mouth and have the same result. Some anti-seizure meds may cause the gums to swell and bleed.

I think it all depends on what dentist you go to.  My old dentist, who I liked very much, doesn't take the dental insurance I have now.  Anywho, so I go to this dentist that was recommended to me by a co-worker.  I hated him.  He was all about making tons of money.  They charged outrageous prices as well for simple procedures.  I knew I wouldn't go back when he was trying to tell me that I need to get braces.  I had braces in middle school!  My teeth aren't perfectly straight on the bottom, but it's hardly noticable to most people (frank excluded, he'd notice :)).  Oh and I couldn't get just the regular metal braces either, I had to get the clear ones that are a few thousand more.  This dentist was more concerned with milking me for money than what I really needed, they also tried to get me to sign up for some of those whitening treatments.

I know some people that go to the dental school for work.  Much cheaper and just as good.  I did find a good dentist that I like now.

Well, haven't they ever heard of saving? For crying out loud! My husband needed a crown, we found out how much our copay was and put that much away for a couple of months & he got his crown. You can't be handed everything in life...no one is entitled to dental work for pete's sake.

No sense in muddying the water with the facts Cindie. These pukes will ignore it anyway.

Oh, and Frank, as to your question on drugs and tooth decay,.........in my profession I have found meth being first and smack second.  :censored:

Oral health is a strong indicator of over all health.  Lifestyle being the number one factor as well as genetics.

Case in point: me.  Two root canals caused my an abusive ex husband who liked smacking me around.

While in school, I did volunteer work as the lead assistant in a free dental clinic.  Disturbingly, we had to be very careful in analyzing the pain factor of a patient.  Many would come in just for pain meds.

As others have stated, drugs (lifestyle) can be a contributing factor.  A meth queen and a crack whore have the same smile.

Advice for the lurking Dummies:  If ya ain't brushing your teeth, ya ain't washing your ass!  Soap, water, a toothbrush and some toothpaste are basics in hygiene.  Put the bong down and go brush your teeth!
