There is no reason, absolutely none, for a sixteen or eighteen year old kid of sound mind and body in a modern western society to feel so "oppressed" or "hopeless" that they see their only solution is to run around looting, breaking and burning shit. You can't tell me that level of despair has accumulated to that point in someone of that age. Every teenager suffers a certain degree of angst, but nothing that condones this behavior or even explains it.
Someone of that age, with their entire lives in front of them and that sense of immortality and excitement common to the young, and all the possibilities that entails? These aren't people who are starving. They're not living in alleyways. They haven't spent years of their life in a political prison. They're not old enough to have been knocked down repeatedly by life's misfortunes. They haven't spent decades working only to lose it all to some catastrophe or other. The vast majority of them don't have the slightest inkling about politics beyond some spray-painted grafitti they've seen on a wall.
No. You can wax poetic and quote the freedom fighters and philosophers of the past all you want. These are not hopeless, beaten down urchins, nobly rising up against their oppressors. They're a bunch of spoiled little entitlement-minded pissants, much like the typical DUer him- or herself, who saw an opportunity to snatch a handful of something that belongs to someone else and crap on what was left behind out of pure spite and wanton lust for chaos. **** them and **** anyone at DU who tries to legitimize this as some kind of cry for help.
DUers just like to see shit busted up. They're antisocial and anti-society that way, and since they're too gutless to take it upon themselves to act on it, they like to applaud and live vicariously through the acts of nimrods like the ones they're now "empathizing with" in England.
