He was what most schools call an "Adjunct professor," or "Adjunct faculty," which really means a local professional with a graduate degree teaching an undergrad class, usually in night school, within their professional area, like a lawyer teaching and undergrad Constitutional Law or Criminal Law & Procedure class for pre-law, sociology, or criminology students. 

To use a military comparison, being an "Adjunct Professor" has about as much to do with being a real professor as being a Major has to do with being a Major General.

He MUST have been waiting for...um...the crowd to quiet down, since he has been quoted as saying he writes speeches better than his speech writers. It would stand to reason that HE must be writing all his own speeches and only a complete idiot could forget EVERYTHING he intended to say.
