Texas polygamist Warren Jeffs sentenced to life in prison in sexual assault

A Texas jury, which convicted Warren Jeffs last week, returned its decision after less than 30 minutes of deliberations.

Jeffs, 55, declined to make a closing argument to the jury before they considered his fate.

He stood quietly as the panel handed down the maximum sentence on his convictions for aggravated sexual assault of a child and 20 years in prison for sexual assault of a child.

During his trial, prosecutors used DNA evidence to show Jeffs fathered a child with a 15-year-old.

Anyone who claims this guy is a Mormon, smack yourself.  Say what you want about the LDS, they want and have NOTHING to do with this baby raper.

It's true that the mainstream LDS church has "excommunicated" the Fundamentalist LDS "church", but after having lived in Utah for more than four years, smack yourself if you think that polygamy isn't at least tolerated in Utah. I've seen plenty of examples of it to know better.

The difference here is that a TEXAS jury convicted this scumbag, who has been running from prosecution at least as long as I've been away from Utah. Furthermore, the victims are underage. Prosecutors won't even bother to prosecute someone for polygamy, which is also illegal. But once you interject the underage element, those prosecutors' ears perk up.

Get yourself a jury in Utah and in northern AZ and it could be a completely different result.
