I had the misfortune of returning to the Great Lake state this past weekend. The family-related stuff was all good, but surveying the remains of Detroit revealed the abortion that that corner of the state has become.
My aunt said that garbage collection has dropped off from once weekly to "whenever"; the upper-level police department is decidedly and completely corrupt, and the school districts are completely devoid of resources, materials, and -- it should be no surprise -- effective leadership.
The only thing that doesn't appear to be in short supply is decrepit, seedy, ramshackle and dilapidated crack houses a stone's throw from Comerica Park where the Tigers play.
Oh, and former mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is pimping his new book "The Rise, Fall and Revelation of Kwame Kilpatrick" penned, of course, behind prison walls. I mean, after all, what else is a convicted liar going to do but tell more lies?
