President Obama and Dick Durbin want to remove Vitamin Supplements from are store shelves and have you have to go to the doctor to get prescriptions from your doctors.  There reasoning is that people overdose at times on Vitamin Supplements and therefore you must go to your doctor and get a presciption.  In two months the FDA and Dick Durbin(D) Illinios and Obama are working against the people 100%.

 :agree:
"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

Wow, I don't know how you have the courage to leave your house with the risk of the sky falling so prevalent in your world.

I read the text of this bill, and sorry I must have missed the part where vitamins will require an Rx from a doctor (because it's not in there). http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=s112-1310

The vitamin industry is one that honestly has been scamming consumers for far too long as they have no oversight whatsoever.    I am sure the high quality manufacturers (Kirkman's and the like) welcome this oversight by the FDA, as they go great lengths to manufacture a high quality product.

The truth is you pick up a bottle of melatonin which states it contains 3 mg of melatonin per pill, and test the pills inside (UCLA actually did this).   One pill may contain absolutely no melatonin, while another may have 5 or 6 mg in it.   That is very dangerous.  As the FDA does not regulate vitamins,  the manufacturer has no incentive to produce a high quality product, other than reputation, which you see in very expensive, high end vitamins (the ones you would find at Whole Foods and holistic shops).     The CVS and Walmart generic brand?   yeah stay away from them.

Boston Children's Hospital warned me about vitamins for my children.  I only buy Kirkmans and even then there are no guarantees that the pill contains what it is suppose to contain.    I am not exactly upset over this legislation.

At the moment vitamins are legally considered food supplements. Democrats, seeking donation from big drug companies have long been in favor of reclassifying vitamins as drugs...

You want your one-a-day multiple vitamin pill? a bottle is a couple of bucks now. Try $40 to $50 after this.
In Europe,  vitamin enriched products are illegal. No calcium supplements, no extra vitamin C for colds. Vitamin enriched American cereal products are contraband in the EU.

General nutrition goes DOWN when laws like this are made.

The FDA already oversees the food industry.  You can put whatever you want in the cereal, as long as it is on the label.   You cannot claim however that those vitamins will cure your cold because there is no peer reviewed research to support it.

The actual legislation -- which was just filed, and just sent to committee.
