Chevy Volt Sales Fail

Sales of the much-hyped Chevy Volt fell to new lows as did GM share price as July auto sales figures came in. Only 125 Volts were sold during the month of July. Recent reports attributed the slump to supply constraints as GM spokeswoman, Michelle Bunker, was quoted as saying that the Volt was "virtually sold out" and only a "few" were available nationwide. I have confirmed that this statement is not entirely truthful and have gotten clarification from GM through Director of Communications, Greg Martin.

Obama Motors fails again. 125 cars in a MONTH?

I'd never buy one of these pieces of shit anyway.

Out of 1.06 MILLION cars sold in July 2011.  Yep--the volt accounted for 0.012 percent of all new vehicle sales.  Shit, even the Smart car outsold it 3-1.

And that's just inconceivable.  There is nothing particularly innovative about it, in fact the Volt is mainly remarkable for costing so much but delivering so much less endurance than almost any other modern attempt at an electric highway vehicle.

The batteries will probably be recycled for some parts, but even that's iffy since they'll be so out of date that nothing may be worth recycling.

While Nissan accelerated production faster than GM, the Detroit automaker will outstrip its Japanese rival and make 5,000 of the Volt a month as soon as January, Tony Posawatz, the director of the vehicle line, said in an interview.

The POS Volt isn't selling but they're going to increase production to 5000/month.  It's nice to see that nothing has changed under the new ownership.

GM is lying like the President. One of the reason that production will never increase to that level is the expensive battery packs which is estimated to cost between 8 to 10 grand. The Prius battery pack cost less than 3k. We taxpayers have been saddled with a billion dollars for the research and development for this HOS.

This is not the only boondoggle the government has gotten into. The Tesla electric car will be on the market soon. It will cost around $50k financed by a government loan of $465 million loan to a CA millionaire who owns the company. No banks would loan him the money so we will wind up on the hook when he declares bankruptcy.

Frankly, (and zeitgeist will back me on this one) the definition of schadenfreude would be to have a line of them, all stuck at the Hampton tolls on I-95 in the middle of a January blizzard, all looking pathetic and forlorn as they hold up a set of jumper cables as the rest of us "heathens" drive by (or take the 101--screw that $2 toll!)

You and I know better.  If they knew how environmentally destructive they are because of all the rare-earth metals that must be mined and the processes to refine said metals, they'd never go near a hybrid/electric vehicle again.
