Keeping Track of Walton $$$
The right-wing, anti-union Walton Family Foundation invested $157,220,283 in corporate-style school reform in 2010. The biggest beneficiary was Teach For America, raking in more than $16 million. KIPP got $8.6 million.

h/t: Schooling in the Ownership Society

"Ownership society" ?!?!

I don't want to be owned by society.

I don't know what their problem is with Teach for America, but the DUmmies really hate that group.

Teach For America is growing the movement of leaders who work to ensure that kids growing up in poverty get an excellent education.

I have no idea why they'd be so against this group.  Something to do with unions, must be.

It's definitely union related.  I've seen enough threads to know that, but it's also because the DUmmies are racists.  TFA requires that all their teachers spend at least two years in the worst school districts.

The other reason.
Perhaps kids with an excellent education, tend to vote...Republican.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Results never matter. If results are good but done by a conservative it is all BAD!!!!1111!!!!eleventy If results are horrendous but done by a leftist commie it is all good!!!1111!!!eleventy.

I am beginning to think that the DUches are correct in that there are too many people.. I could see eliminating 20% of them and making humanity all the better.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I think it has something to do with getting people out of poverty.  Any organization that seriously wants to get people out of policy could threaten the Democratic party.  If people are self-sufficient, they have less use for some politician promising to give them everything.

From MadFloridian's journal:

Quote
Teach for America students take low, entrance-level pay while also receiving a government subsidy for their salary in the form of Americorps stipends. Schools lay off teachers and then hire Teach for America teachers to fill positions that real teachers would otherwise be filling. Teach for America teachers are undercutting the wage needs of real teachers and causing them to be laid off as a result.

Pure, unadulterated greed.  That simple.
