The President should not accept anything other than a clean debt increase. One page, one change - just the number, nothing else.

If he accedes to even a single demand above and beyond that he has caved. And that is what is going to happen. And what will the Republicans take from this? The obvious lesson: Every matter that can be elevated to nation-threatening status will be and with every single one of them they will take another little bite into the social institutions of what was once a strong America.

Make no mistake about it, this entire episode is a step backwards for our nation. We who wish and work for a better country, one in which work is respected and charity is extended, where you get what you pay for and predators are not tolerated, we are the ones who were betrayed. One little bite here, one little bite there. They are feasting on our flesh, and the deeper we go into the cave the harder they bite.

Reasonably new campfire, just lit; no primitives have seen it yet.
