That's a big assumption you're making, Jan. I think that come January 21st, 2013, almost all of those new regs & rules will be overturned by the new President, and the new Congress will repeal the laws of the past Congress.
Well, of course I hope your right ... as far as it goes.
But I think its a bit more complicated than that. I believe we may get more conservatives into the Senate. But Im not putting too many eggs into the basket that we will get a conservative President. I hope we do, but history and our system dont encourage me in that way of thinking. I wouldnt be surprised if we get a Romney as the nominee. Heck, the nominee is usually chosen by the northeast states before I even get a chance to choose. Dont get me wrong... I would vote for the dog catcher over 0bama, but that brings us back to the old bromide of choosing "the lesser of 2 evils" rather than the candidate which is actually the best for the country.
A Romney is not a marxist. BUT, he will not reverse some key policies. And even if we do get conservative majority's in both houses and a conservative in the White House ... some of this Commissars appointments and anti capitalist, anti american cultural policies will take decades to unravel. And I doubt we will win every election after this next one. I think we are in a position which is much more serious than many people realize. The left never quits. It may have to be mum, take a back seat and take a short respite for awhile but it never, ever quits. As soon as it gets back into power it picks right back up where it left off. And the media loves it. Public education loves it. Appointed (not elected) activist judges and prosecutors loves it. And unfortunately many on our side (RINOs) are not really on our side. Its a battle that is bigger and has much more long lasting consequences than most folks will ever realize as most of them may never be as engaged as much as folks like you and I are on this forum.
Of course I hope for the best ... but human nature and the lust for power by certain types casts a shadow that I think we ignore at our peril. As Jefferson said (I paraphrase) the natural order of things is for govt to advance and liberty to recede. And as Burke said, the only thing necessary for evil to win is for good men to do nothing.
Much of the public remind me of "sheeple" and "the good men who do nothing". Which for me, brings to mind the boiling frog syndrome or the effects of incrementalism to wit: If you place a frog in a pot of boiling water, it will immediately try to jump out and live. But, if you place the frog in a pot of room-temperature water and slowly turn up the heat, the frog won't do anything at all. It may even appear to be enjoying itself, oblivious of the impending danger. As the temperature climbs, however, the frog gets sleepy and eventually cannot hop out of the pot and dies. This is very serious stuff imho.
