Ron Paul for President!

I'm sure this will get lots of replies and view now  

I've got just a simple question after reading about him and seeing some of the comments here about him. First off I know his supporters are typically annoying as that's no secret however, why is there so much dislike for him?

He doesn't seem like that bad of a person when it comes to politics in most ways (that I know of) so I'm just wondering why there is so much dislike for the guy. I obviously don't know near as much about American politics as any of you so I figured I'd ask, as I don't know a whole lot about him in general.

I imagine this topic makes me sound like a moron but oh well...I've only started paying a lot of attention to US politics in the last few years.

There is no bigger issue or they would have simply told you what it is. Remember this, when people call you names without support for their side of the debate, they have already lost. But remember this too. When they provide evidence to prove you wrong, be willing to accept it, thank them for the knowledge and spread the information. It is really simple. But some on here like to bash and call names without looking at the facts. So, until someone can tell you why you shouldn't like Ron Paul, keep researching why you do and be ready if any of them actually tries to debate you instead of just calling you names.

It was a cold foggy grey December afternoon when the sounds of tramping boots was first heard stomping resolutely towards the CU battle lines.

BadCat had just called a Liberal an A-Hole and invited him to fornicate with himself.

We poked our heads up not knowing what to expect. The marching was a perfect metronome of lockstep boot thuds.  "Could it be zombies?" we asked ourselves? "Robots?"

Because nothing Human moved with such precise mechanical synchronicity.

We glanced nervously from side to side at one another and the palpable feeling of dread washed over every man and woman at the terrible regularity of their approach.

Bad Cat glanced at Freeper and spit his half smoked cigar out onto the muddy ground and yelled "AWRIGHT!... This is IT!!!!!!" And with that they poured out of the fog and slammed into our lines.

Ron Paul supporters. A hundred of them if there was one. Slack jawed and unkempt, bearing the tokens of their Man God before them in the form of Sigline links to message boards ... and the Paul 08 pics gleamed an evil mockery of Red White and Blue above the dreaded links.  But always, always they walked in ridged lockstep straight into our fire.

We began to take casualties as they laid into us with bulleted talking points and You Tube videos.  We were assailed by maddened sleeper agents in our midst whose programing kicked in when the main wave of Paul Supporters washed over the ramparts like a frothing retarded wave of zealotry. The shriek of their pointless wailing drove strong men mad with the power of it's mendacity and the depths of it's uniform insanity.

And in the darkest hour a small group of CUers in the dungeon discovered the only thing that would bring them down and silence them.  The discovery was made by your humble corespondent that the posting of a mere non  sequitur  picture and a strange unrelated post stopped them dead in their tracks.  Bad Cat and Freeper seized on this and the word flashed out to the CU brethren like lightning in an ink black sky.

Freeper and Bad Cat were like battered lions, bloody and rent, but still savage enough to stand their ground as they stalked forth from the dungeon and eyed the ravaged CU landscape.

"Christmas Cats" thundered BC! "Give them pictures of CHRISTMAS CATS!!!. Or normal damn kittens if that's all you can find but for God's sake FIRE"

"PIE!" boomed Freeper! "Bury the bastards in pie and soup pics till they scream like dying beasts!!!!!"

And Oh how we fought.  For every thread that was posted showing Guiliani in drag or assaulting us with the mind numbing stupidity that Huckabee lied about his weight loss we met them with kittens and pie. We Photo Bucketed and hot linked until the blood ran from our finger tips.

The battle raged for four days under the grey and lifeless December skies.  The Australian Brigade that was Sonnabend fought like 5 posters combined. RebelKev, Mr. Snuggle Bunny, Splshdown, Skizz, Mack, Mamacags... They fought like warrior poets. Their sword was the fuzzy kitten or the steaming hunk of apple pie, and their shield was the odd well turned scatological phrase.

In the end Arclight strikes from the admins took out the most vicious of the Paulists. They donned clever socks and came at us time and time again, but Sarasota was ever vigilant... ever vigilent.

And when the sun finally broke through the leaden skies and washed over the ripped and battered landscape, it shone brightly on the weary warriors as they surveyed the field of victory.

But the casualties were fierce, and the fighting goes on to this day. Attacks are led by fierce insurgent fighters who creep among the threads waiting to spring forth and detonate thier IED's of partisan stupidity in an attempt to sow discord and destruction over that which they could not conquer.

For many the wounds ran too deep and they withdrew from the realm to seek succor in other locals where they could try to put the bitter memories of the Paul War behind them.  Others, maddened by the sounds of battle that rang so long in their ears, said their goodbyes and committed forum suicide.

But many stayed.

There are years worth of threads about Ron Paul in the CC archives. How come every time some damn n00b joins up, he insists we go over exactly the same old stuff over and over again? Read the freakin' archives here. It's all there. Most of us are sick and tired of talking about the same freaking topic every few months for some new member who has a Ron Paul infatuation.

Just based on a cursory review, I'd say SSB's points are pretty much spot on (each point has been discussed at length in the past here).  Further, I'd caution you that defending RP around here might be hazardous to ones posting privileges.

You're not going to be banned based on a couple of comments.

However, as others have mentioned Ron Paul is a sore subject around here.

That said, to additionally answer compaq's "good faith" question, there are several perfectly valid reasons why discussions of Ron Paul as though he's a viable presidential candidate are a complete waste of time and energy:

1.)  He's grotesquely ugly

2.)  He's old and semi-senile

3.)  He has a speaking voice that reminds most of fingernails dragging across a blackboard

4.)  He's a "Libertarian" not a Republican, with all that goes along with that

5.)  He's never garnered more than 2% of the vote in any national election anywhere other than his home district.

He simply doesn't have the slightest chance of coming close to the nomination......let alone winning the presidential election.........he's a Ralph Nader redux.......only less intelligent.

Simply not worth discussing.

We have a chance right now to grab votes from people searching for solutions. If someone googles conservative forums and finds this, that is great.....until they see that they will be ridiculed for asking a question.

I realize it may be teadious to explain over and over, but at least provide reasons and proof for the conservative stance without making someone feel like an ass for asking. But, I am not telling anyone how to run this site or how to post on it either. Just seems to me that there are legit questions ridiculed for no reason and we lose another vote because of it.

Point taken.....however as someone mentioned upthread, it seems like this just happens again and again, and it gets tedious.  Further, we are expecting another paulbot invasion as the election wears on, so our watchword is vigilance.

I'm with you on Bachman.......she's definitely hawt.....and really bright.....I'd vote for her in a heartbeat.

This Ronulan thing is more then beating dead horse around here. Former friends turn traitor and much more caused this site to be created and a good number of us want to go forward and not have to retread this issue. Alot of us were banned for standing up for what we posted on the other site and that alone was bad enough, I myself bailed over that very thing because an admin had gone power mad and banned people for defending Conservative ideas on a supposedly conservative web site.

Sorry I feel this has more then run its course and the wound also run deep. Guaranteed 100% pork. The media has noted, though many libertarians have ignored, that the allegedly “libertarian” Republican, Ron Paul, has been bringing home the bacon to his district, just like every other vote-seeking politician. The PR hype is that Paul is different. Judge for yourself.

Paul says he only votes for spending authorized by the US Constitution. But when it comes to using his Congressional position, to request pork for projects in his own district, apparently anything goes. Whether the spending is Constitutionally legitimate, or no,t Paul brings home the bacon.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Paul:

...leads the Houston-area delegation in the number of earmarks, or special funding requests, that he is seeking for his district. He is trying to nab public money for 65 projects, such as marketing wild shrimp and renovating the old movie theater in Edna that closed in 1977 — neither of which is envisioned in the Constitution as an essential government function.

Here is a list of some of the pork that Paul has applied for. It is apparent that much of this has nothing to do with programs permitted, or mandated, by the Constitution. You figure out what clause of the Constitution enumerates the spending in question. I’m not an expert on the workings of Congress but reading through the funding requests I am under the impression that Paul was seeking multiple funding for some of these projects. I don’t know if this is cumulative, but that is the impression I got. Either way asking for it once is bad enough.

1. $25,000 for the Brazoria County Sheriff to establish a “Children’s Identification and Location Database.”

2. $8 million for the marketing of wild American shrimp.

3. $2.3 million for shrimp fishing research.

4. $3 million to “secure the acquisition of the McGinnes tract, protecting its critical natural resources and helping consolidate refuge inholdings.”

5. $5 million to expand the cancer center at Brazosport Hospital.

6. $200,000 for the Matagorda Episcopal Health Outreach Program to fund a “National Health Service Corp Scholar.”

7. $4.5 million to study the effects of the health risks of vanadium.

8. $3 million to test imported shrimp for antibiotics. (Does anyone think there is a big shrimp industry in Paul’s district?)

9. $10 million to repair the Galveston railways causeway bridge.

10. $1.18 million for “Personalized Medicine in Asthma”

11. $100,000 for a “data-driven automated system for nursing students on the Texas Gulf Coast.”

12. $257,000 to “prepare graduates from the doctoral program at the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing to assume faculty roles in schools for nursing with a deficient number of doctoral level faculty.”

13. $1.4 million to buy buses for the Golden Crescent Regional Commission.

14. $2 million to buy buses for Galveston.

15. $5 million for highway spending.

16. $2 million to replace facilities for Galveston bus service.

17. $3 million to replace facilities for the Golden Crescent Regional bus facility.

18. $2 million to repair the Galveston trolley.

19. $2.14 million to renovate the Edna Theater.

20. $13 million for I-69 highway project.

21. $30 million the Texas Maritime Academy to refurbish a ship.

22. $4.5 million to maintain Cedar Bayou. Plus another $9 million

23. $15 million for “construction at GIWW Matagorda Bay.” Plus another $5.8 million

24. $100,000 to maintain Chocolate Bayou.

25. $2.5 million to maintain Double Bayou.

Paul seems to be playing on both sides of the fence. He puts in the requests for the pork which becomes part of the budget. Then he votes against the appropriations bill. He knows that the vast majority of these spending bills will pass regardless of what he does. He can brag to shrimpers about the millions in subsidies which he earmarked for them, but he can also claim to have voted against the subsidies he guaranteed. It is one way to be all things to all people.
