Yeah, that really bugs me as well. It's more prevalent in the social studies area, but as you can clearly tell from discussions elsewhere on this board, it manages to sneak into all sorts of places.
If you really want to hear what the teacher is doing, have your kid tape record the lectures. They will have to ask permission to do so, but if you (as a parent) make a big enough stink about it, they'll have to let the lectures be taped. If they really don't want to, and your kid has not-so-stellar grades, use the whole "I think it will help him when it comes to test time" excuse. If your kid has a learning disability, the teacher HAS to let them tape the lecture. Any teacher worth their salt and concerned about their students would let them tape the lectures.
