OBAMA: HOUSE GOP WOULD RATHER DESTROY THE U.S. ECONOMY THAN “ASK ANYTHING OF CORPORATE JET OWNERS, OIL & GAS COMPANIES” AND THE RICH |

Last night, House Speaker John Boehner bailed on negotiations with President Obama on a debt ceiling deal. In a hastily-arranged news conference, Obama angrily explained the problem:

“If you do not have any revenues, if you have no revenues at all, what that means is more of a burden on seniors, more drastic cuts to education, more drastic cuts to research, bigger cuts to services for the middle class. It doesn’t ask anything of corporate jet owners, oil and gas companies, and people like me, who’ve done very well.” Republicans, he said, were demanding “a package that would effectively require massive cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and domestic spending, while not asking anything from the wealthiest of this country.”

“If that’s their only answer it’s going to be pretty difficult to figure out where to go.”

And raising taxes to spend even more money that we don't have won't destroy our economy?
I guarantee you if we raised taxes, all that would happen is 0bama and his bunch would just want to increase spending even more, increasing the debt that much more, then in 3 months demand another round of tax heights. The GOP is trying to break this cycle and force the govt to be responsible with the money that we the taxpayers give them.

Yeah because its unpossible that not spending like crazy could ever reduce the deficit. The real answer is to jack up taxes and spend even more.

But I also recall the period of time just after the Soviet Union had collapsed as a result of President Reagan's strategies.

The democrats' immediate reaction was to lick their lips and begin to debate among themselves how to spend the "peace dividend".

To a democrat, any increased revenue simply means a license for even more spending or, as they call it, "investment".

The corporate jet accelerated depreciation which was championed by 0bama in the Porkulus spendathon would only bring in $3 billion in ten years....at the very most optimistic communist estimates. The reality will be that the corporate jet industry will trim down (like how taxing sodas & candy would make thinner kids) it's workforce and expenses as it contracted. The net result would be fewer companies in that market with fewer employees and a far greater reduction in tax revenues. A standard lose-lose proposition form a Liberal.

Haven't they been fighting this war for about 90 years now (at least since Woodrow Wilson)? At this point Americans are getting a real-life, real-time example of what their country would look like if all their socialist wet dreams come true thanks to Greece and a few others. Generally, except for liberals and those they've managed to keep on their inner city plantations, Americans value their independence. Exceptionalism is what keeps America strong while other countries fall apart. We forgot that for a while. Electing 0bama was sorta like hitting ourselves over the head with a 2X4. Hopefully Palin/West will be able to put us on the path to prosperity again.
