Conservatism is a mental illness

Ordnary sane and rational people do not act at all like the McVeighs, Rudolphs and Breiviks of the world.

2. Well, I wouldn't necessarily call conservative terrorists "sane"

Or rational either.

And yet conservative mouthpieces like Limbaugh and Bootz are quite aware of how unhinged their fans are and are always trying to incite them accordingly.

They don't go out their way to appeal to the sanity or rationality of their listeners, do they?

4. Most conservatism seems to be rooted in excess fear or even paranoia.

Fear someone will take your money. The govt is taking our money, we see it every time we get a paycheck and see the deductions

Fear someone will take your woman/man. What is this based on?

Fear someone will move in within your tribe (country, neighborhood, etc.) Wrong

Fear someone will diminish your standing within your tribe. wrong

Fear someone will hurt you. Sounds more like you guys

Fear someone will corrupt your children with radical new ideas. None of your ideas are new, they are radical but not a one is new

Fear someone will corrupt *YOU* with radical new ideas! Nope you goons can't change my mind

Fear you won't be able to defend yourself when these things happen. No we will defend ourselves when anyone wants to bring harm on us

Etc.

All these fears are the mental illness. Conservatism (whether political,
religious, or both) is just a result.

11. Pure conservatism links fear with reactionary response.

Burn a book, start a vigilante para military, target those you fear. For the most part they just reinforce each other with their fear mongering and sometimes achieve a degree of populism such as the "Tea Party". There is a threat of violence or at least obstruction borne out of fear. When they finally turn violent it can be so illogical that it appears to almost be random.

If that was true we would have fallen for global warming, repukes want to feed grandma cat food then push her off a cliff, etc.

16. They are THE VERY MODEL of conservatives.

Unable to think rationally, prone to believing the disinformation when contradicted by the truth, cough *global warming *cough* hostile to social outgroups, You mean like how you react to religion unwilling to recognize failings in themselves or the leaders they trust...Like 0bama? right-wing authoritarians are batshit ****ing crazy, and everything you've lost in the past ten years is due to Karl Rove's ability to motivate those crazy idiots to believe what he wanted them to believe and to turn out in droves to the polls.

The right-wing authoritarian is primarily motivated by fear of change, but they are not able to identify what "change" is, or the fact that it is their own leaders who wish to expand the rate of change by driving wages down, dismantling the social safety net, and impoverishing the middle class. They are the rock-solid 23% of Americans who show up in every political poll, weighting the side of stupid every single time.

Here is an article I wrote years ago now, which I think still stands on its own:

10. Not sure

there was some study, and I don't know if it was a randomized control trial or how scientific, that conservatives' brains are liberals' brains are a bit different.

It may be that conservative policies (everyone look out for themselves!) fit more in with the reptilian brain? Or, these conservative policies fit in more with sociopathic or antisocial brains and personality adjustments?

The problem when you say mental illness is - I don't think people with bipolar or schizophrenia necessarily cut down to right, left, or center.

I do find RWers to be rather immature and irrational. Maybe histrionic is a better term.

It is everyone's job to look out for themselves, it's a plain and simple fact. We were not put on this earth to sit around and sponge off of people who work.

13. Yeah, I sort of figured that

You wonder about conservatives - I do know some, and they are the nicest folks you'd want to meet. They'd bend over backwards to help you, as an individual, when you need it. But they seem to have some type of block in front of their brains about social and fiscal programs and cultural norms.

And, for white conservatives, I think, laying at the bottom of all of this, is prejudice. Racism, sexism, homophobia. Not always, but in a lot of cases. They seem to have a fend-for-yourself attitude if they think the fenders are doing something they personally, disapprove of (single mothers- people who fall on hard times and need food stamps).

If you think this, about conservatives then you don't really know any.
You actually admitted that conservatives are charitable, but yet still find a way to criticize them for it. Tell me who is more generous? the person who helps someone with their own resources, or someone who wants to help people with other people's resources?

15. I would say that the McVeighs, etc

are, thank goodness, NOT typical of rightwingers. It is in human nature to be violent, imho, and both extremes will have people like that.

But, it is a puzzler when a right-winger sees some story about someone losing their house and says, "That's not right!" and then you look at them and say well, this policy, that policy etc systemically causes a lot of this and they just look at you like a disconnect.

Uninformed citizenship is way more dangerous to democracy - watching dumb shit like Fox "News".

Yet when we point out that 0bama's policies will bankrupt the country, you stick your fingers in your ears and scream, "la la la la la".

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Liberalism is a mental disorder.  You have to be insane to believe it's okay to kill millions of unborn children, but believe it is wrong to use capital punishment on a murderer.

Every major study has shown that conservatives are happier than liberals, more generous, more self-reliant, and more stable.

Liberals are more likely to take mood-altering drugs (legal or illegal), depend on government support for themselves and all charity cases, and more likely to react poorly to anything or anyone that disagrees with their particular world view.

Sane and rational people do not support the cold-blooded murder of millions of humans every year.
Sane and rational people do not protest the defense of our country against terrorists that continue to bomb their own people and others in foreign countries.
Sane and rational people do not react with violence to entertainment shows, whether they are true and funny like Rush's show, or untrue and angry like Maddow's.
Sane and rational people don't fear the mention of Jesus to the point of using court cases to silence free speech.
Sane and rational people don't support the advancement of "rights" for certain groups above the general rights given to all people.
Sane and rational people prefer to take issues to "We, the people" for voting instead of pushing our specific beliefs upon the entire country through government mandate and judicial orders.
Sane and rational people understand the foundation our Founders gave us and prefer to remain free instead of becoming Europe-lite.
Sane and rational people understand that children need a solid education in reading, writing, math, history, and civics...not in "self-esteem" and applying condoms.
Sane and rational people understand that government is an entity that must be constantly reigned in for our own safety, not some "grandpa in Washington" that gives us everything we want by stealing money from some anonymous "rich."

Take your "crazy" pills DUmmies....you need them.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Mr Dorkio labeling anyone else "unhinged" is rich.  It is funny how quckly the unhinged DUmmies use the murdered as political pawns to prove an ideological POV. And by "funny" I mean demented.
