To the Admins: Please remove me from DU - I no longer want to be associated with this website
   
Tombstone me. I am done. I have been a member of this website since January 5, 2004. I have donated hundreds of dollars. I have written tens of thousands of words in support of democrats and eviscerated republicans and right wingers. I have been the person I thought this site was created by and for, a supporter of Democratic politicians and policies. I wrote a passionate piece on the loss of the 2004 election which garnered more responses, at that time, than any other piece ever on DU. I no longer recognize the place that was once my haven from right wing madness.

President Obama has been villified, no crucified, by so many members of this website, that I get sick to my stomach reading the posts here. Even glorious accomplishments are belittled and damned. The reaction to the elimination of the DODT policy and mindset, which has existed in the military for over 70 years, is the final straw. In 2 years and 7 months, President Obama got rid of this insidious hurtful policy and what thanks does he get? A few congratultory posts that are peppered with bullshit criticisms and lies about his role in getting rid of it.

This is the modus operandi of DU now. No accomplishment is good enough for the vocal majority of the members here. Every promise kept is met with a, "Yeah, but..." DU has become much more like Free Republic and FoxNews in it's style and tone of criticisms the sitting DEMOCRATIC President. This atmosphere has been allowed to fester and grow under the administration and creators of the site. I don't understand it. The tone of DU caused me to stop donating over a year ago. Several long time members have expressed their dissapointment in the change and many have left in disgust. Include me in that long line of former proud members.

Leaving DU is much harder and sadder than I am capable of doing on my own. It has been part of my daily routine for over 7 years. I can't quit you DU, so I need you to quit me. That is why I am asking to be removed. Delete me. I could give a shit about the responses that are going to result from this telling me to just leave and mocking this hard decision. Ultimately I am just one member of a large community, so I don't fancy my departure will have any significan impact, but, for me, it is important that I no longer have a reason to check in here and removing my account will assist me in not feeling the need to do so.

To the people that remain who fought with and encouraged me for the last 7 years, I thank you. For the ones who are tearing down what we worked so hard as a group to do, you have earned my sincere disgust and revulsion. To the admins, you are losing what you created by allowing this type of behavior to spread like an untreated cancer or parasite and it is killing this once incredible site.

I will miss being a part of DU.

I've never heard of him either. I suspect that's why he's leaving. He's a nobody.

Also, I have no doubt much of negative shit you read about Obama is from Rethug trolls. They infest this place but are just clever enough to keep from getting tombstoned. I know it hard but try to just ignore the negative stuff knowing those posters are clueless, naive, ignorant and/or faking.

Your departure will, in fact, have a significant impact. It will be one less voice of reason, moderation, and optimism...these things are in short supply around here. I know exactly what you're talking about, I've reduced my visits here a lot in the last year for the exact same reasons. But voices of reason are always needed, if not always welcomed. I for one would like you to just take a break and reconsider.
