Don't mess with this guy!
« on: July 21, 2011, 10:58:43 PM »
Anyone who has been in a situation even remotely similar to this can certainly empathize with this guy. You know it has crossed your mind when you were in those shoes but this guy went off like a bottle rocket. Ouch! He might be enjoying a big sh!t eating grin but he's going to be enjoying it in jail.

I can understand the anger, but doing what he did was extremely stupid. I would imagine his sentence will include anger management classes that he'll have to pay for.

In the end, it's his accountability to check his contract and negotiate a warranty, even on a used vehicle. Apparently he failed to do that and the car dealer - dickhead that he is - was under no legal obligation to "make it right."

Caveat emptor.

FREE we had some poor guy ride about this very area with a Van he had painted lemons on and the name of the dealer he bought it from.

Sad that he had to go to these lengths but perhaps we people may have done the same.

IIRC the buyer paid big bucks for a Certified used van that the dealership of that Van guaranteed for 12 or more months.

New owner went on the interstate and a shimmy came up at 60, Darn this thing ain't safe.

For the next year the owner brough the van to the dealer to fix, The dealership tried everything and when taken for a test drive the van did fine at 80 mph.  ----Owner brought in some mechanics from other dealerships and they all swore they would never again ride in that van.-----45 mph was the limit.

So for a long time we watched as the lemon van drove up through town at a low sped.     Soon the owner took to parking in a leagel place across from the dealership.

Talk about idiots in Maine, this New Hampshire dealer charged the owner with Harassment.

What fun we Yankees do love to see all this come down on a business with a really bad BB report.

Whelp, first things first.

--WIFE bought the car, not him.
--She was TOLD by the dealer there were issues (they were awaiting to sell it at auction) and that it would be sold AS-IS.
--She bought it anyway, without consulting the husband.
--The buyers did not have any kind of inspection performed on the car prior to purchase.
--Elizabeth Dinan (the reporter) has a habit of being, shall we say, a bit "sensational" in her reporting habits.
--His license was currently under suspension for non-payment of child support (D'oh!)
--The dealership in question actually has a pretty good reputation (only 2 BBB complaints in the last 3 years.)

Finally, what part of "AS-IS" do they not freakin understand?  This was an 11-year old minivan, for chrissakes!  11 winters on these roads?  AYFKM?

Oh for f***face sparky, never let the truth get in the way of a good story.  Dizzy Dinan story?  Nuff said.  'Course folk from away may not be aware of the less than perfect accuracy of Dizzy in particular or the Herald in general, thus the old saying "a lie is halfway round the world while the truth is still putting its pants on."

There is a legal defense fund being set up for this guy, really?  And you wonder why people vote democrat. :rotf:

Concur, zeit.  I've been explaining these same exact things over on a thread at FR.  Gawd these people are dense.  Most of them are convinced that the dealer tried to jam them with this car when in fact they all but begged to buy it.  I'm not a huge fan of automobile dealers (and consider I bought my Jeep from Bournival--nuff said) but the impression I get and from what I've spoken to others, they're more ethical and fair than most.

Make sure the beagle has plenty of ice, zeit.

Bournival just died awhile ago.  Beyond that I will follow mothers rules.

What's her DU name? Seriously people even in drivers ed they tell you what to do when buying a car and it's worked for me everytime. The only time I had a glitch was when I bought a new Chevy Cavalier hatchback back in 1985. The cars power steering pump was bad and I didn't see signes of it untill we got it home. I figured it was low on fluid and assed some. Next time I drove it to Omaha it started to loose fluid again so I added more fluid and it was fine. when I got home it was spilling fluid all over the firewall so I called them and told them the pump was failing and they tried to tell me I was wrong. I told them that if they don't fix the pump they are getting the car back and I want my money. Iowa has a law that if there are problems witht he car or if I chnage my mind within three days I get to return the car or truck to the dealer. So they said bring itin and they fixed it.
