A thread in which I ask folks to lobby for DU to support https.

In short, if anybody between you, and DU, wants to see what you're posting, or reading, they can do so, with nothing more sophisticated than a laptop, and free software, and a point of access.

That's it. Seriously.

If you have an un-encrypted home wireless connection, somebody can sit outside your home and read everything you post. If you have encrypted wireless, but you connect through an ISP, then the ISP can read and see what you post. If your packets transit international boundaries, it's also legal for US authorities to read, and inspect, everything you post.

It's time for DU to support basic, simple, encryption.

1. If anyone wants to see what anyone else is posting on DU, can they not

simply type in the DU URL and read the posts?

2. With encryption:

They cannot just filter for all "Obamanaut" posts, as they happen, in real time.... because it's encrypted.

They can, however, search for such, once a post is made.

Without encryption, however, somebody can legally intercept *every* "Obamanaut" post, no warrant required, even if it is a private message, because it has no measures taken to ensure privacy.

So what we have here is Boppers is hijacking his neighbors wireless connection and he doesn't want anyone to see that it's him posting on DU.
25 years ago we had Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash and Bob Hope.  Now we have Obama, no hope and no cash.

How about instead being decent and civilized and not posting anything you wouldn't want your grandmother to see.  There is no privacy on the internet.  What are you up to, anyway, boppers?

If naughty old boppers thinks that will stop the rampant stupidity aired on DU from getting out into the world at large, he is very sadly mistaken.

On edit:  But if they did do that, I'll bet some of the more inflammatory types would really let their hair down and say some truly amazing things, things that would have the Secret Service paying calls on some of the members.  Alas, restricting access to the site beyond current strictures would wound or kill $kammer & Co's cash cow, so I doubt that would ever happen.

Hiding in mommies basement isn't enough anymore?

Ummm...

What the hell difference does it make if the data stream is insecure when the information sent is publicly accessible on the target end ?

Is he setting up a "I didn't post that, someone intercepted my data, changed it, and posted that instead" scenario?

If pot ever is legalized there will be one good thing about it, besides the price tripling due to taxes. The government warning label, WARNING- INDUCES PARANOIA AND DECREASED COGNITIVE FUNCTION but that won't stop them anyway.  :stoner:

There are those at the DUmp that want access throughout all of the DUmp.

It will never happen. The resources needed to encrypt common web traffic full time would be cost prohibitive, else DU would run slow as molasses.

That's why virtually all websites only encrypt worthwhile functions, such as payment gateways - else everyone would encrypt everything.

For all the threats that have come out of DU...they are probably on any number of mandatory watch-lists for the Secret service, the FBI, and any number of other forces.

I think the DUmmies suspect that the elusive, enigmatic Elad can access their porn stashes.

That's what I was thinking as well.
Just your "average" DUmmie using their "common sense". I use that word, common sense, very loosely when speaking of DUmmies.

That's the funny part about the thread.

Besides being the typical brain-dead DUmmie who doesn't understand that in the end the post is public the only other reason I could think of for wanting that is that he's 'borrowing' an unsecured WiFi connection and doesn't want anyone to identify him.

18. If you have an un-encrypted home wireless connection, you're a moron. No https for you

on a simple internet forum.

Of course he's a moron, he's on DU.

That didn't work for Weiner.

DUmmies never learn from the mistakes of others.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.
