Heritage Action Targets 61 Districts in Effort to Send BBA to the States

Washington, D.C. – This week, Heritage Action will launch a campaign in support of H.J.Res.1, a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution of the United States.  The multidimensional campaign, targeting 61 districts across the country, will pressure key Members of Congress and give the Balanced Budget Amendment the optimal chance of success in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“This balanced budget amendment has momentum in Congress as a solution to our spending crisis,” Heritage Action’s CEO Michael A. Needham said.  “Since President Obama is unwilling to come to the table and have an honest conversation, Heritage Action is launching a campaign to bypass the White House and send a Balanced Budget Amendment directly to the states.”

Please, oh please let this happen.

Yeah.....there are TWO ways to propose amendments to the Constitution.......either 2/3 majority votes in the House and Senate.......

or

2/3rds of the state legislatures can force the congress to convene a constitutional convention.......this method has never been tried...........why?  Because it's DANGEROUS, in a constitutional convention the entire document (potentially) can be up for revision.....all of it.

Heritage is playing with fire here, and we all might end up burnt.

Meanwhile, House Republicans, most of whom don’t want to raise the debt ceiling at all, applauded their leadership’s decision to call up the “Cut, Cap and Balance” bill.

The plan would authorize a $2.4 trillion increase in the borrowing limit after Congress passes a balanced-budget amendment to the Constitution. It would also cut spending and cap it in the future.

The GOP leaders said they would bring the package up for a vote next week.

“We asked the president to lead, we asked him to put forward a plan, not a speech, a real plan, and he hasn’t. We will,” Boehner said.

During a press conference late Friday morning, President Obama said he had not studied the new Republican proposal, but added that it “doesn't sound like a serious plan to me."

The president also rejected the balanced-budget amendment proposal, saying, "We don't need a constitutional amendment to do our jobs."

Yeah, apparently you do. Of course, it probably doesn't matter as 0 hasn't used the Constitution for much other than a floor mat since the media got him elected.
