« on: July 14, 2011, 06:37:32 AM »
I came into this century and got an iphone.  OH GAWD, someone help me!

I need to know some basics and where the best apps are like for free ringtones and office type programs.  I also want to make sure I don't get screwed moneywise.

Are there any tips or warnings out there from any of you?

and if vesta comes in here and tells me a long story about her iphone I am going to  :lmao:

Apple's app store has everything you could ever want. All the free stuff has banner ads but not too invasive.  As a tip: to see which apps are running (and close them) double click the home button below the screen, that brings up the open apps, press and hold any app for 3 seconds and you will be able to close the ones you're not using.

Love the iphone and would not ever go back to a crackberry.

Not sure if they are available for iphone...

My daughter has a droid with a couple of apps that I think are wonderful. One is a grocery app - it keeps her grocery list, stores coupons and she can add prices as she goes through the store to know what she's spending. (she does incredible with coupons!!)

She also has a budget one that not only keeps a running balance of her checking account but tells her when to pay her bills. Don't know if it's the same app, but she has all her grocery and CVS cards scanned into it, so she doesn't have to carry them on her key chain.

I need to get a new phone, too.

Has anyone gotten Verizon's iphone?

I've been eligible for a Verizon upgrade for a few months, but I got a replacement Blackberry in January for free so I've been holding out.

I too have been wavering on whether or not to go for the I-phone.  I'm so used to the Blackberry that I think I'd have trouble adjusting to the touchscreen.  I probably would like the bigger selection of apps, although the Blackberry already has a lot of what I need/use.

Thoughts from anyone on the pros/cons of changing from Blackberry to I-Phone?

I have a Treo and have been eligible for over a year for an upgrade.

Haven't gotten anything because I was waiting for the iphone, but I've heard both good and bad about it. And I've also been trying to figure out if it was worth the money.

Had a crackberry before the Treo....for 5 days. I hated it. RB has the new one from Sprint and wants her old one that she had with verizon back. She can't figure out if it's the type of phone or her's in particular. She got a package deal when she switched from Verizon to Sprint, so got her son one too. He's already traded his for something different( she told me what it was, but I can't remember), he hated it.

Now, I don't know what to get.  :???:

:ashamed:

The only thing I use my phone for is to talk to other people.  What the hell am I thinking?

I text, but thats only because sometimes I just don't want to talk to those other people.  I'm sure the phone does all sorts of other interesting things, but I don't use those features.

I was initially anti-text.  However, for good or bad, it has become the norm for communication anymore so I've accepted it.  I get send/receive far more texts than I use minutes in a month.  I actually type out whole sentences and rarely use the little acronyms, except when I'm in a hurry.

My usage for the phone is basically a mini-computer.  I check e-mail/sports scores/weather/news/other crap on a regular basis when I'm away from the office.  I barely use my laptop at home anymore.

That's how I use my Blackberry.  As I said above, I think I'd have trouble using the touch screen...that scares me.  I suppose I'd get used to it.  I was a-scared of the Blackberrry at first too.  :-)
