Memorial service on now at VA Tech...

(on CNN)

Does anyone else see the unpleasant irony of an Honor Guard carrying ceremonial rifles kicking off this program?

Old thread, but we apparently have a "hated one" at DU, as in hated AT DU due to his service, who's a member here. LOL. I hope he doesn't get pissed about me showing this.

NAMBLA is a left-wing organization.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

4. Do know that

Va Tech is NOT a bastion of Liberalism. It is a fairly Conservative school. I'm sure there are some depts that are more Liberal, but of the ACC programs, they are probably up there with Clemson and NC State for having the most Conservative fanbases. (that is just my feeling, did no studies...and I went to NC State so I can speak clearly on that one).

The hell it isn't!

And in other news... :rotf:

Virginia: State Colleges Do Not Have the Authority to Ban Concealed Carry on Campus According to Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli

In response to a question posed by state Senator Emmett Hanger (R- Mount Solon), Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli recently issued an opinion stating that state universities and colleges - such as the University of Virginia - do not have the legal authority to prohibit permit holders from carrying a concealed firearm for self-defense. With his opinion found here

, the Attorney General explains that where permit holders are lawfully allowed to carry may only be prohibited by law, not school policy. AG Cuccinelli did however state that bans on open carrying may still be enforced based on trespassing laws.

Consistent with his recent opinion stating that self-defense is a valid reason for permit holders to carry in church, this most recent action enforces the fact that state agencies, such as public universities, do not have the authority to establish “policy” in direct violation of state law. Virginia does not expressly prohibit permit holders from carrying concealed for self-defense on university or college campuses.

While this opinion is good news for permit holders, the university or college still has authority over students and staff and actions could be taken to expel students or fire staff, should they violate the school’s policy. Should the school want to make their policy law, they would then be forced to go through the complete administrative process to have an official regulation added to the Virginia Administrative Code.

Its about 50-50 overall, but has a large, vocal conservative section in the Corps. Our Chair of PoliSci (Ilja A Luciak) is about as red as they come (his family is literally the enablers of dictators. Grandfather was Swedish ambassador to Germany in 1930s; uncle sold the boat that took Ernesto Guevara and Castro to Cuba; he hangs out with Daniel Ortega and Castro.)

But we cadets always looked for ways to ruffle feathers. Especially when some of our Iraq/Afghan veterans were in classes that discussed the wars and they got to go head to head with some punk ass 17 year old freshman who starts talking out his ass. Good times.
